Just found an airfare for $390 tax included

lots of costa rica worship on this board overall!

but to be honest the food in costa rica is subpar.

much Sportsmen's lodge accolades. Neat bar and hotel concept but bad food (tex-mex reminds me of Tico dishes) I think the new wing would be worthwhile to stay in- not the older rooms.

Costa rica great for rafting and tours but san jose looks like a giant garbage truck dropped rubbish from the sky's on it.
lots of graffiti also- I have not been down for three years maybe its spotless in the city and everything is painted correctly :P

crime much worse than five years ago.

real estate hyped up like crazy to gringos- looking for a huge real estate/tourist downturn within a year.

hotel rates are puffed up compared to even three years ago - I thought the dollar is always flush down there.


heard alot of Pura Vida's about how great everything is in costa rica
then you have to jump into a taxi to safely get to your hotel two blocks away!
go figure

No CR does not SUCK

I have been going there for 12+ years which shows I enjoy or have enjoyed what CR has to offer.
But like all venues it has changed a bit over time. I also have changed in my expectations.

When I go on vacation my friends ask me are you going to CR again It sounds so great there?
I say no not there ,and when they ask why not CR I give them this analogy.

My Analogy

If your whole premonger life consisted of eating Turd sandwiches (sex with gringas) you would be OK because you don't know any better.

Then you took a bite of a Steak and Shake double cheeseburger (CR latinas)

You would swear this is the best. It can't get any better than this and would go back for more and more.
After all this sure beats those Turd sandwiches.

I did this for 12+ years and was very happy.

Might be a lot in what you say Fred but I would guess the vast majority of guys on this board are not coming to Costa Rica for any of those things.

They are coming for some hot Latina loving and that CR has a lot off. Yes there are other destinations with that also but CR is a short plane ride for most guys so they overlook the shortcomings and come on down.
