Woman, 80, spits in policeman’s face

MOUNT CARMEL — Rose Galgocy, the 80-year-old Marion Heights woman accused of trying to run down neighbors with her car Tuesday, got herself into even more trouble later that night when she allegedly spit into a police officer’s face.


In an affadavit, Mount Carmel Township police Cpl. Brian Hollenbush stated he was taking Galgocy from his department’s holding cell to transport her to Northumberland County Prison when the woman, who neighbors say has been spitting at them for 20 years, let loose.

“She was yelling and screaming and flailing her arms about,” Hollenbush reported. “(Galgocy) was handcuffed in the front and was walking out the door when (she) turned around and spit directly into my direction, hitting my face and neck area.”

Hollenbush said Galgocy then turned and spit at him a second time.

After that, Hollenbush reported: “Officers used substantial force to remove (Galgocy) from the station.”

Police charged Galgocy with aggravated harassment for the incident, making it the 12th harassment charge she’s received since her 70th birthday.

She was charged with aggravated assault, reckless driving, reckless endangerment and retaliation against a witness earlier in the day.
