It is still cold as Phuck here in Michigan so I thought I’d share a story that has nothing at all to do with mongering, except that it happened right after a trip to CR. I had flown into Florida for business reasons and was then on my way home via Atlanta then Detroit. I remember driving by the Tampa Bay Bucs stadium on the way to the airport, and a game had just ended so there was a stream of people leaving the stadium. I sat at the gas station across the street for a few minutes to watch the crowd and play that mindgame “How much would you pay to Phuck her….OK how about her…..and her …????†When I boarded my plane it was one of those deals with two seats on one side of the aisle, and three on the other. My seat was the window on the two-seat side of the aircraft. This black family with a SMOKIN hot wife, two K*ds and one infant began working into the remaining four seats in the row. I was really hoping I’d get to sit by the wife, but of course hubby took the seat next to me. The guy looked vaguely familiar, but I always hesitate to ask a black man if I know him from somewhere for fear he’ll think I’m doing the “You all look alike to us.†BS. He was pretty tall and held the infant. He was so tall that there was no way he could sit in his seat without his knees creeping onto my side. I’m not small either at 6’ and 200#, so situations like this always disappoint me as I know I’m in for an uncomfortable flight – not to mention the infant he was holding. We made some small talk – he was on his way home to Indy from a vacation in Tampa. I was content to sit and read my book, and we didn’t talk during the flight to Atlanta. Once on the ground, he stood up, and his ticket envelop fell out of his back pocket. I picked it up and said “Sir,†and he turned around, took the ticket, and thanked me. As I was handing the ticket, I saw the name “Anthony Dungy†Could it be? (At the time of this event, I didn’t know or didn’t recall that Tony Dungy was coaching the Colts and was not at Tampa anymore – I have not followed football much in recent years) So being the football moron I was, I thought “This can’t be THEE Tony Dungy because there is no way his ass would be on this plane with a game having just ended in Tampa, he would not be riding in coach, and I noticed the wife had a Colts baseball cap on. So I just didn’t realize who he was at the time. I had a connection from Atlanta to Detroit, and he was connecting to Indy so we ended up waiting for our connecting flights at adjacent gates. I got on my laptop and did a quick search for Tony Dungy, found the Colts website, saw his picture, and a read a news release that he was on vacation in Florida with his family due to it being a bye week for the Colts. Suddenly, it all added up. He was sitting with his family and watching a football game. I walked over and took the seat next to him and told him that I didn’t realize who he was on the plane because I thought there was no way he’d be flying in the middle of gameday; he quickly told me it was a bye week. We got a laugh about him not being able to get away from work as he watched I think the Seahawks and someone else. We chatted for a few minutes, then I let him be. Afterwards, it was funny to see all the guys standing around watching the game along with the coach of the (then) reigning Superbowl champs and noone seemed to notice. What really struck me about Mr. Dungy, was that he seemed very humble and down-to-earth – even riding coach class. I did more reading about his life and history, and he really is a pretty cool guy. So who have you sat next to? |

I once sat next to Cameron Diaz on a plane. I think it was 4 to 5 years ago. Hell I don't remember exactly when. Lemme look on the restraining order. |

This is a bit more obscure, but in 1994 I was flying back from Hawaii and sat next to Akebono Taro, the first foreign born Yokozuna (Japanese Sumo Grand Champion). I was sitting in a very crowded coach section, when a little old lady sitting next to me needed help. I tried to assist her to go to the bathroom and she vomited on my seat. The flight attendant then put me in first class, and Akebono was sitting to my right, taking up two first class seats. He was an impressive figure and in Japan, he was a rock star. Actually, sumo wrestlers are more popular than rock stars in Japan. Ciaociao |

To my knowledge, I've never sat next to a celebrity. On a more serious note, I flew down in '06 next to a woman, a gringa who is employed as a teacher in the C.R. prison system. ![]() ![]() At one point the subject turned to my reason for traveling solo to C.R. I told her my standard half-truth; I'm going down to study Spanish and reunite with old friends. She gazed at me steadily and quietly said.... "Whoremonger." She then turned to her paperback for the remainder of the flight. Gosh...was I wearing a sign? ![]() ![]() |

About 15 years ago I was out of the army and working for a Fortune 100 company. As I checked in at DFW for the flight into NY I was pleasently surprised to be upgrade into 1st class. I took my seat and the plane continued to board with all seats being taken in 1st class save the one next to me. Than shortly before closing up guess who boards. Sigourney Weaver! Man this woman is pretty tall. She sat next to me and gave me a quick smile and shortly after take off ordered a glass of wine. Most of the flight she read. I did get to tell her that IMHO she looks better with hair. I wouild love to say that she invited me out after we touched down in NYC, but alas no. Rainman3 |

You're pretty smooth there, Mr. Rainman... You should have told her you are a real fan of the clean shaven look... All over, of course... Hopefully, you'd get a smile instead of her wine spilled in your lap, maybe then your chances for dinner would be better... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

No Celebs but coming back from Aniv Party last Labor Day (left with an hour to go in party- two dirnks in hand into the taxi) flying back Spirit to FLL the Bearded Clam put on such a display talking to a woman from a non-English speaking country giving quotes about Heuy Lewis (from the movie American Psycho) that I almost suffocated from attempting to conceal my laugh. It was perhaps the most amusing scene I have ever witnessed, and an MP3 player with headphones was the only line of defense from wetting my pants. Hilarious. But some Motely Crue allowed me to pass out and wake up feeling miserable to see the very professional boys and girls at US Customs. |
