Some Ron Zapaca 23 yr. old rum, counting down the 41 days until my next trip to SJO !!! :D :)

Excellent choice :)

Try Zafra (21-year old) from Panama...an incredible rum. Kind of hard to find. About $50 a bottle.

Thanks Gringotim, I will look for it at Total Wine and More or Lee's . $50 is ok. The Zapaca is $33. :D :)

Yeah, the Total Wine stores usually have several bottles in stock.

I just returned to the U.S. from my 3 month vacation. I have been in Costa Rica and Nicaragua 5 out of the last 9 months.
Brought a couple of 18 years old bottles of Flor De Cana Rum. Always make sure it's 18.

Zaya 12-year old rum (from Guatemala...pre-2008 :!: :D ) Zaya discontinued their operations in Guatemala in 2008, after they were purchased by Diageo. It has subsequently been produced in Trinidad. The 'new' version is nowhere near as good as the version that was made in Guatemala...that was truly an incredible rum...in the same class as Zacapa :D

Obviously CRTers are going teetotal. 92 pages up to summer 2012, then only 4 pages in the last 5 years. WTF?

Or we're too drunk to post.

I've made it my mission to introduce mi novia* to as many different brands of good bourbon as possible - as well as making the Lodge a beacon of hope for Manhattan drinking tarpon anglers.

I like rye Manhattans (hardly tropical I know). Of course, rye (real rye - not high rye mash bill Canadian) whiskey is unobtainium in CR so I bring it with. Mixing rye - Jim Beam or George Dickel (which is fine by itself).

Bourbon? Blanton's. Four Roses Single Barrel (discovered by the bourbon snobs and now expensive). Woodford (Double Oaked). Basil Hayden. Makers Mark Cask Strength.

At the LA I drink Flora de Cana.

*that's sarcasm.
