Gringotim,
A member of my rum aficionado's club ( sounds better than drunk rum drinkers) brought a bottle of Zaya over in December. Altho a pleasant, complex flavor, it was way sweeter than what I enjoy. I ended up using it to fortify my evening tea before I went to bed. Did the former Zaya have a considerably less sweet flavor?

In 2008, the international conglomerate Diageo purchased the Guatemalan rums Zacapa, Zaya, and Botran.
They were being produced under the same roof by Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala. At the time, Diageo's
acquisition created an unfavorable situation for Zaya rum production due to its similarities with Zacapa;
both required a supply of limited aged rum stocks and both competed for more or less the same market share;
rich, complex, sweeter style sipping rums. Hence, the brand was moved to Trinidad where it has been
produced ever since.
I've only tried the Zaya from Trinidad once, in 2009 or 2010. I was so disappointed that I never bought
another bottle. There was nothing 'special' about it. It was nowhere near as 'smooth' as the Guatemalan
version. From reviews and articles I've read over the years, the vast majority of the reviewers held the
same opinion. The Zaya that was made in Guatemala was comparable to Zacapa. The consensus of the reviewers
was that the new (Trinidad) version was sweeter and more 'syrupy', with more vanilla and caramel tastes. Some
compared it to a spiced rum, such as Captain Morgan 'Private Stock'.
A couple of years ago, I opened a bottle of the 'Guatemalan' Zaya from my collection :) I still have eight
bottles left :D I'd like to sell a bottle or two, but since eBay changed its policy to not allow alcohol
sales, it's somewhat difficult to find potential buyers.

My point was, if PR was drinking that, to carry on with his jest, it may very well be his last post.

You’re right a little far afield. We then went to Parque Brazil in Itaguii and hung out with the rockers.

So as it turned out two of the three paisas tapped out before me. :oops:

Tengo guayabo :oops: :roll: :cry:
