The NFL: As far as I'm concerned, there was only one "LT" and his last name isn't "Tomlinson".

Very tough comparison....

Lawrence Taylor was probably the biggest difference maker on defense the NFL has seen since the Butkus days of the Late 60's early 70's.

Until Tomlinson breaks the all time Rushing and Touchdown records or a couple of Super Bowl despite horrible coaches Schottenheimer and Norv Turner I must agree with you with one caveat.

For many many years and to this date I believe Walter Payton was the best ALL AROUND Running Back in NFL history, this includes blocking ability, receiving ability in addition to running skills. Well let me tell you, I have been a diehard football fan over 40 years, LT (Tomlinson) has only been in the league 7 years and is closing.....

Lets see LaDainian due it for another 5 years and then we might have an argument as to the best LT in history....

Not to many former players have such a distinctive award named for him...

The Walter Payton Man of the Year award is given annually by the National Football League honoring a player's volunteer and charity work, as well as his excellence on the field.

Prior to 1999, it was called simply the NFL Man of the Year Award. Shortly after Walter Payton died (having been the 1977 recipient himself), the award was renamed to honor his legacy as both a great player and a humanitarian.

I had met Walter met on a couple of ocassions, he was well known in the community as a very humble man and never to busy for his fans....a great person besides being a great football player who we lost too young and is missed.
