Many of us know that American style football is catching on in Mexico. Several universities in Mexico have American style football teams. A couple of years ago Ament used to air them on Saturdays.
In many Mexican-American homes in SOCAL and in many Mexican towns, Mark Sanchez is a folk hero. He certainly was a favorite of USC fans until he failed to return to the Trojan lineup for his final year of eligibility.
But this die hard USC fan, who has no LA based pro team for which to root, wondering aimlessly from franchise to franchise looking for a team to support seems like the thing to do.
Unless one has a rap sheet of at least 10 pages, one cannot be a Raiders fan.
And the animus between LA and San Francisco causes most in SOCAL to root for whom ever 9ers are playing.
And then there is Sandy Eggo, a good alternative. SOCAL people generally love the City by the Border and Bay. But alas, it is San Diego’s team not LA’s and the San Diegans remind LA basin people of that.
So while I have no connection to New York other than loving to go to that vibrant city and otherwise no connection to the Jets, I can’t help rooting for them because they were smart enough to pick up Sanchez – the local SOCAL boy.
Who cares? No one. But after drinking an inordinate amount of beer imported directly from Bavaria, it seemed like an appropriate time to ramble on about nothing of import.
> Cheers!
