Was told that Isaac Hayes just finished a new movie with Samuel Jackson and Bernie Mac................I'd lock myself in a cabin somewhere if I were Samuel Jackson.

The movie is "Soul Music". I'm thinking the Cosmic Lightning that almost got Mr. Morgan Freeman was meant for Mr. Jackson--they are both magnificent Black actors and the Bolt might have come from an errant angel.

I think Mr. Mac's reputation will only grow when more folks realize how he revolutionized especially the African-American stylization of sitcoms--breaking down the 4th wall is one of the more obvious things he did. And he had so much more room to grow. Mr. Hayes was a whole bunch more to Stax and Soul music than is generally realized--producer, A&R guy, supreme motivator, talent scout and nurturer, as well as
his obvious talents as singer, writer, band leader.
Shit, I'm getting all maudlin now--pass me that bottle of Tullamore Dew, will ya? Nah, nothing but that, a glass and my saliva , thanks.

Although Isaac Hayes was extremely accomplished musically, I will remember him most fondly for his portrayal of Gandolph Fitch in several episodes of The Rockford Files , my favorite TV show of the '70s. :D

Now that he's dead, I feel a little bit guilty that my admiration for Hayes diminished somewhat after the South Park/Tom Cruise debacle.

Ciaociao

Jerry Wexler, the guy had an ear for talent.

Another great one moved on this past Friday. A Rock n Roll Hall of Fame member and a big part of the R&B scene in Memphis in the early days.

Hey Isaac Hayes association with south park brought us the all time classic " chocolate salty balls."
He was great though. Some of the best mood music ever to try to get some semi-drunk hotties' clothes off.

Not that I'm complaining mind you (I posted here too) but how did such a glorious yet dolorous subject wind up in FUN stuff? Because we mutually grieve for these guys and there is no place else here to share, is my guess.
HolaB--Not to break out all over you with stupid but Mr. Wexler's name was Jerry--his father was Harry, which is likely where the confusion arose. Mr. Wexler was a prime motivator and shaper of a music I can't imagine not existing or living without. He and the others sure took this White nerd's soul and made it something real. No joke.

A play on "The Brother from Another Planet", right? I like it--let's go with that. Or even in an alternate universe, but one thing's for sure--they're rockin'!

Thought I'd share the NYTimes story on Isaac Hayes' funeral--some culture clashes here but nothing too serious:

Nothing in pop music is all said 'til Rolling Stone chimes in. Here 'tis--includes a list of his 5 essential works:
