You deleted your post saying the '85 Bears were the best team ever just as I was typing the reminder the the '85 Dolphins gave them there only loss that season.

Yeah ID, after I wrote that I realized that I was only opening myself up to getting a ton of crap from Dolphin fans who would say exactly what you did. I figured it was better to just give up that fight before it even started.

Although, it should be noted that the Dolphins have never had an 18 win season

C'mon guys, I'm only messing with you. In all seriousness though, I don't think there was anyone in Chicago that didn't want a rematch with the Dolphins in the '86 Super Bowl. Miami was a much better team than New England that year and the game undoubtedly would have been more entertaining. I'm guessing Bears 46, Miami 13.

ID, mia2ewr, TonyTC, etc.

As I’m currently snowed-in at my office waiting for the plow to come and clear the parking lot (and have nothing else to do), I figured I would research some statistics of the ’85 Bears vs. the ’72 Dolphins. Please observe the following:

‘85 Bears Record (including Playoffs): 18-1
‘72 Dolphins Record (including Playoffs: 17-0

’85 Bears opponents winning %: .472
‘72 Dolphins opponents winning %: .364

’85 Bears opponents with .500 or better record: 8
’72 Dolphins opponents .500 or better record: 4

’85 Bears regular season points/game: 28.5
’72 Dolphins regular season points per game: 27.4

’85 Bears regular season opponent points/game: 11.7
’72 Dolphins regular season opponent points/game: 12.2

’85 Bears playoff points/game: 30.3
’72 Dolphins playoff points/game: 18.3

’85 Bears playoff opponent points/game: 3.3
’72 Dolphins playoff opponent points/game: 12.7

Summary:
Bears played two additional games (with no bye weeks)
Bears had a far tougher strength of schedule
Bears had a better offense
Bears had a better defense
Bears had a better playoff run (including two shutouts and a 46-10 Super Bowl victory)
Bears beat two teams with 10-6 records by a combined score of 89-10
Bears didn’t have any douchebags like Mercury Morris on their team

The 1985 Bears only loss came on the road to the Dolphins who were the second best team in the NFL with a 12-4 record. The best team the 1972 Dolphins played during that season had a record of 8-6.

Comments/questions? (keep in mind that this is the Smack Talk section)

Now I know why I lived in Miami rather than Chicago  Never had time to kill being snowed in

So all I know is that the 1972 Miami Dolphins are the only team, in modern day NFL history, to have gone undefeated in the regular season, the divisional play offs, the super bowl. :D

Oh and just a reminder, in 1972 athletics usually did not need steroids and other performance enhancing drugs to perform.

the '85 Bears were pretty cool....they had the Super Bowl Shuffle...they were pretty good too....I really can't offer an opinion re: who would win. The stats seem to favor the Bears...like they favored Brady and the Pats......there is something nice about annually seeing the '72 team pop the bubbly when the last undefeated team falls...although I never appreciated it as much as this year. :D

Stay warm, Sandino. And ride the El manana. 8)

Hey Sandino,

You must REALLY be a Bears fan, and probably a Cubs fan also...
I lub da Cubs and ALWAYS root for the Bears, too...
But not too many people feel the same way as you do...

All the press this year has compared the 18-1 Patriots against the GOLD standard in football ...
And that, my friend, is the 1972 UNBEATEN, UNTIED World Champion Miami Dolphins....

Nobody was interviewing the almost great Bears...
Nobody gives a shit except for die hard Bears fans...

I saw and read about interviews from the '72 Dolphins for months since people equated them for the penultimate season...

The '85 Bears were terrific as were the '08 Patriots...
But they feel famously short, now didn't they?
And I might add that the Patriots of 2008 had a great regular season guys... Awesome playoffs..
But you got BITCH SLAPPED and lost BIG TIME to the reigning WORLD Champs, New York Giants....

But the '72 Dolphins are on top of the mountain with no neighbors as the only undefeated team as the Super Bowl World Champion Miami Dolphins....

Just ask Mercury Morris.. 8) 8) 8)
