yes, that's right, the New York Bar in a restaurant thread.
They have some of the best soups in town, served in a large bowl, with crackers, for 1200 colones.
I just finished one of their cheeseburgers with fries for 1500 col.
Anybody who is on any kind of a budget but still wants to stay in the gulch, should check out the N Y Bar. They also have wings and other appetizers and the beer is only 850 col.

I think I ate a burger at the Presidente every night. They exceeded McDonalds quality, so they worked for me

The cheeseburger at New York Bar was actually pretty good. Well cooked and tasty. Not 5 star, but very edible...I am comparing against Fuddruckers!

The New York Bar has HEINZ ketchup too, which I think makes a big difference.

In general the NY Bar serves bar food not 5 star restaurant food. The prices are very reasonable and I find the food very good.

I usually make it point to stop in and have a cheeseburger and a couple of Imperials when I am in San Jose.

Kitchen has limited hours and last I knew they had gone back to the kitchen being closed on Tuesdays. Chili is available all the time.

The New York Bar has some of my favorite pink snapper on the menu after 1 P.M. most days.

One of your favorites too Don Gordo.

Chilli Dogs....NY Bar may have the best chilli dogs in SJ. Hot dogs are tough to find here. Fortunately,or unfortunately as the case may be, the quality of the chilli dog seems to exceed the quality of the chicas there.

They have the best chicken wings in town.

Get there a few minutes before 7PM and then when the night shift comes on they put a shot glass upside down in front of you. It means you get a freebie of whatever you were drinking.

It's pretty funny to watch some of my "old fart" friends sipping beers from 6pm to 6:45Pm and then switch to Ron Centenario so they can "upgrade" their freebie.

One night I was making a couple new friends and the gringo next to me gave me a knowing wink and then proposed a toast to "Mickey Finn." Turns out one of my new friends was notorious for slipping guys knock out drugs and then stealing their stuff.

Caveat Emptor!

I used to eat there often, but now usually go over a block and go local, where I can get food that is as good and costs about half as much. When I stayed at the Prez it was a regular haunt, but not so much anymore. There are many local places within 200 meters that I'd prefer for a bite to eat.

Think everyone would appreciate you sharing the names and locations of these places. A good cheap meal is always a find. Don't tease us share the info Amigo.

Lunch choices are everywhere. There are several on Calle 11. Avenida Central between C. 9 and C. 11 is full of restaurants, most of which are a better buy than the NY Bar. Of course you can try Mariscar. I like Club 1930 early in the day. I was just going to put a link to several earlier threads, but it wasn't easy refining the search. Pollo Campesino is another choice. The food at the NY Bar is OK. It is a better choice sometime like Sunday when a lot of places are closed. DG speeks well of the soup. As with most places in town, the staff changes so fast that any impression I have may no longer be accurate. A different cook will make different food.
