This last trip had the pleasure of going with True Sportman and fellow CRTer (sorry forgot you handle) to this restaurante. Exact location eludes me as I wasn't paying close attention but it is very close to the INS building. Mostly all tico clientele business people. The place has three sections; just keep weaving through to the back and it is muy tranquillo. We each had one of the casados and all were excellent. I had the dorado a la plancha, very fresh and tasty! I think the pricing was around 2100 colones. Well worth it! (Especially since True Sportsman paid!!!). Sorry the directions aren't better but worth the exploration ![]() Pax, Sluthog |

I try to go there for at least one lunch every trip. It is on the south side of Calle 7 just west of the Metal Building and is on my map. Being halfway between the Morazon Park and NF, it makes a great place to stop either before or after a NF massage. Also, this is definitely a tico place that gets heavily packed with local office workers during the 12-1PM lunch hour. For best service try to get there either before noon or go for a late lunch after the crowd thins out. If you can try to get a table in the courtyard in the back. It has a aviary filled with tropical birds and makes for a nice setting to have a relaxed lunch. Check out one of the posts I've done on this place: http://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=34275&highlight=aviary#34275 |

What is really interesting is watching the mice eat the bird seeds that have fallen on to the ground of the aviary. ![]() ![]() |

La Criollita is a great place for an early morning breakfast, too. Inexpensive, plentiful and delicious...and no crowd! |

Is it a green building(one story) that appears to have barbed wire across the outside roof? The place I'm thinking of has a little merchandise counter on the way in for toothpaste, candy, drinks, and the restaurant has a couple sections(I've never seen a courtyard) and plenty of desserts in glass cases. If we're talking about the same place I would recommend. The people are nice and it gets mucho business from the locals so it's either tasty or a good value. |

The little shop in the front is also the best place in the neighborhood to get beer, water and several other necessities, including some simple pharmacuticals. It costs more than Mas X Menos or Automercado, but it's very close to Hotel Castillo, Don Carlo or Hemmingway. I go there a lot. The price for beer may not be the same, based on who is working, but -- welcome to CR. The difference is not much. |
