Guys;
Don't laugh but another member of the board and me have been searching for a good pizza. We've tried all the spots reported on this board - the Pizza Huts, the Pan y Vino, the Pizza Bella, all of 'em.
You won't beleive where we found the best:

Are you ready? Remember don't laugh:

The snack bar at the Price Smart in Escazu!

Yes, its true! And they use REAL peperoni!
Try it and see if you don't agree.

LVSteve
PS: Give credit to Ding Dong, my friend who found it first.

Mariscar, the "chicken" place provides an unbelievable pizza when you buy it freshly cooked. Had it with the guys the last few days, crust was great, the cheese was stupendous and the toppings were plentiful. Who would have known? :D :D

Have a Great Day,

Dave

The only two spots I have found is the "Costa del Sol on Central, and the Pizza spot at El Pueblo. Those two are the only things close to a NY Pizza here. Price Smart is awful, as are most of the Italian restaurants.

Eluvsive;
Go back to Price Smart. Its changed. You'll be surprised.
BTW, I didn't start this post to open a discussion on Pizza in Costa Rica. I know all the spots mention by you a Dave and have tried them all - in addition to the ones I mentioned. All I'm doing here is reporting the (amazing) results of my quest for a good Pizza. I know its sounds crazy but I SWEAR, Price Smart had the best. Probably because they are now using REAL peperoni.

That may not have been your intention amigo but it is the going to be the inevitable conclusion :lol:

I have not tried the pizza at Mariscar or the pizza spot at El Pueblo so can not comment on either.

I have eaten the pizza at Costa Del Sol and also the storefront place just west of them. I found both very good and the closest thing to NY style pizza in San Jose. Would be a toss up but my vote goes to the place east of Costa Del Sol on economic considerations. Slice and refresca 400 colonies compared to Costa Del Sol 500 colonies for just a slice. The problem with both of them for a resident is I want the pizza at home while watching TV and there is no convenient parking there and if there was the traffic trying to get home would result in cold pizza.

Price Mart, while good, can not compare to either of the above places. It is not NY style but is better than Pizza Hut, Papa Johns & Dominoes and the price is unbeatable 5495 colonies for an 18 inch.

This subject is a subjective as "a beautiful women" so your opinion may vary widely.

I agree with DD on this one. I haven't been out to the Pricesmart in Escazu and, though I believe LVS when he says it's good, I'd be very surprised if it was really the very best pizza in CR. Its kinda like saying Walmart has the best burgers in the US. It's just not what you'd expect. Most guys here don't live in Escazu and don't get out there much. Certainly not just to get a slice of pizza. OTOH, if I were shopping at Pricesmart anyway, I'd certainly check out Steve's recommendation. In the meantime, I'll just stick to the pizza that is available closer to my usual routes. I nearly always grab a couple of slices of pizza and a drink at the place next to CdS for a cheap lunch at least once each trip (then walk up to Morazon park to dine al fresco). As long as we're talking about good pizza outside the Gulch, has anyone tried the pizza at Il Pommodoro in San Pedro? I've heard elsewhere that THEY have the best pizza in town.

L.V. Steve,

I can't comment on the PriceSmart pizza, but the price sounds perfect!

I had a splendid pizza at Cafe Mundo made with smoky, smoked ham and fresh mushrooms. It was stellar from the crust on up.

Well Handy shops there frequently with the wife, :D
maybe he could cheat on his diet and also give us a review. Last time we were there him and Latinoheat got some fruity drinks, but they're kind of fruity anyway. :P

Ok, I will re-try Pricemart pizza on the way home tonight. If the pizza doesn't look good, I will just buy 10 lbs of snow crab legs and go home and steam them

Why is it that Pizza Hut in CR is more expensive, relatively speaking,
than in the US? One time I took a Tica and her three small offspring to a Pizza Hut in Cartago. I was thinkinhg it would cost me perhaps $20 to $25. My total bill was $48! What the f*ck?! Sure, the n*nos had ice cream for dessert and special ch*ldren's meals/pizzas, but $50?!!

Anyone ever eat at a 'Two for One' pizza? It's a chain in CR. I ate at the one about a mile past the San Pedro Mall, heading to Tres Rios/Cartago, on the left. It wasn't too bad, but I wouldn't recommend it. Just 'average' pizza.
