I like Faros, which is kitty-corned from the Hotel Morazon. It's not super authentic but it's not bad at all. The overall effect is at least Mexican rather than Tico picante.

Bilko are you talking about Faro's or are you confusing it with Gordy's Mexican Grill in the same area. The descriptions I've seen for Faro's don't make it sound like a mexican joint.

Prolijo,

Where is Gordy's Mexican Grill ? Have never heard of it or seen it. Can you fill me in?

Like Faro's but hardly would recommend it as an authentic place for Mexican food.

DD,
I'm not really sure. Could it be Faro's and Gordy's are the same place. I've only seen Gordy's referred to in guidebooks and other websites but haven't actually eaten there (when it comes to mex, I can take it or leave it). How long has Faro's been there? Maybe it changed names at some point :?

If Faro's is the place that's like a block or two from the DR, I ate there. They have a bar on the right as you walk in and additional seating upstairs and bathrooms with really, really low ceilings.

They have a good menu, I think I had a huge nacho salad. The prices were reasonable too if I remember.

Prolijo,

Thanks for the info. I think Gordy's and Faros are indeed the same restaurant. Faros was a name change to a former place a year or two ago.

They do market themselves as a Mexican restaurant but I personally think their food, while very good, is not really authentic Mexican.

Yes, Gordy's is now Faros. It has the same menu, only the name has changed. Another good Mexican place is Antojitos. It is right across the street from Mall San Pedro. It is a good place to go for lunch as there is usually some pretty good scenery in there at that time of the day.

BTW, both Faro's and Antojitos are shown on my map :).

For all those going to SJ this week, be sure to check out the map update thread before you go. I've finally "finished" my full-color legal-sized version of the map with all the icons and labels and will upload it shortly so you can all print it out before you go. Check the map update thread in the VIP section for the full details.

I think Antojitos is a chain and they're in the food court at most of the malls in CR.

Personally I like "Fogoncitos" right across from Plaza Mayor in Rhomoser. Lots of authentic mexican specialties like Tacos al Pastor and real creamy Horchata (rice milk).

Theres another small Mexican restaurant in the Court area near downtown, but cant remember the name. Just walk through the legal district and find the Mexican restaurant sign. Cheap and authentic...

The Cuban Soda Las Charritos on Calle 36 South of Paseo Colon near Oasis and right down the street from Veronicas is very good and qiuite reasonable. It may not be exactly Mexican but very similar.I often eat there after my morning massage and it is always outstanding.rbc100

Post subject:  San Pedro

Los Molcojetes used to be a restaurant near Sabana Sur that was my favorite. I was told that they opened another place in San Pedro, though I've never been there. The original restaurant closed. The owners were Mexican and made good food. If they now have a place in San Pedro, it may be the one you heard about.
