When I was in San Jose I noticed restuarants claiming they imported
beef from the US. Even some venues in the Gluch. Is this facual
or just dressing up local grass fed beef?

That had to be some expensive steaks in a restaurant. You are talking about the mail order store? "Omaha Steaks"

Admin. 1, I think you must have eaten there some time ago. There has been an embargo on US beef in all of Costa Rica for quite a while now since the advent of Mad Cow Disease being a problem. In fact some of the restaurants that used to import their beef from the US now have a sign posted that says that they can not import it now. In my never-ending search for the best steak in the SJ area I returned to the restaurant "La Parilla Argentina" in Escazu. I am once again convinced that the lomo (which I like)and the lomito served there are the best around.

Ate there 3 weeks ago and was in the kitchen with the owner and he gave me a tour of how clean the kitchen was. We laughed at the boxes of Omaha Steaks in the freezer. I understand the US embargo, but they are freeze dried in their own wrappers and stay for a long time.

Makes me wonder now HOW LONG THEY HAVE BEEN IN THERE???

I can confirm they were OMAHA STEAKS and it was in the last 3 weeks

YO CRT Carnivores;

There is no I repeat, no delicious and very tender steak sold in CR restaurants that I have found. Not to mention, quality tasting cold milk also. I dearly wish someone could show me otherwise......I will gladly pick up the check if there is.

Hey Circus....I can understand your frustration with a good steak BUT MILK. How would you know good milk from bad milk when you always put in two shots of bourbon.

Yo Circus,
You mean that milk they use from a can isn't fresh?
You could just follow Showerhead around, he has a knack for picking up lactating chicas.

YO Paco & V.Bob:

Paco, I don't think I want to follow that demon showerhead around and yuck to lactating milk......awful taste. BTW, my contacts at the Pres are installing hidden camera and mike in your soon to be occupied suite. Please have some decent chicas come to the room......there could be some bucks in this for you...................................or maybe not.

V-Bob: Surprisingly I do not mix milk with booze. Never did like white russians, scotch & milk, etc. BUT, I LOVE WHOLE MILK and the best I ever had is "Gustafson Farms" Originated in northern florida in 1908. It is head over heels the best milk I have ever found and I've been all over the US and many international places. If any of you pass through this area, stop at the grocery and get a quart........you will be hooked. Funny how little things sometimes mean a lot.

Well, the colombians do a good job on their beef in the chipechape mall
in Cali. that is grass-fed. never did find a good beef luncheon place in San jose.
had some good chicken dinners in Turriaba, wood roasted with coffee roots.
well I guess I could go the the cafe britt tour and eat the beef at the buffet
like a starved cornball.

There is no embargo on US beef in Costa Rica... You can pick up anything you want in a full selection at Automercado in Santa Ana. I live right behind the store, and go there a couple times a week. They have a fairly large selection of Angus and other meats.

Best milk I ever had was in Japan. They don't put their milk through the punishing pasteurization process that robs it of most of its flavor. It was rich and creamy and delicious. I pretty much gave up on milk after I returned to the USA in 1991 since I found it flat and flavorless. And the milk here in Costa Rica is even worse.
