I'm sorry to say that I can no longer recommend this place after three negative experiences in a row. I even brought Admin 1 there to set up a discount for our VIPs.I have taken and recommended this restaurant to many members but it seems that the prices have gone up,and the quality and attitude have deteriorated. I'm not going into detail here but I will mention a couple of instances. A few weeks ago I went witrh three others for dinner. Three of us ordered the Chicken with asparagus dish. Well for 3500 colones each for the dish we were presented a dish that had a 2 inch square of chicken. When I asked Carlos (the owner about it he answered that it must be the fault of the supplier.) Then on Saturday night Drillem and I went for dinner. Drillem was informed that they didn't have any tenderloin for the night. WTF it WAS Sat night at 6pm and they had none of their most popular dish. We perserverred and ordered something else and diet cokes. Oops another glitch.... no diet coke.WTF this IS a bar and restaurant and NO COKE. The waitor said that if we could wait 10 minutes he would get some. (Maybe he ran to the DR) He then served our coke. He had glassed filled with ice and about 2 ounces of coke. Now I kind of lost it.I went over to Carlos, with the glass in hand, and said that he knows that we bring a lot of people here and this glass of ice was bullshit. He starts unleashing an attack at me for "using such Gringo language". WTF, I used the word bullshit in a Gay Bar and restaurant and he wa offended. You'd think that he would be a little more tolerant. WE ARE. They have seen the last of me. |

I agree...I was with VB and others on the lack of chicken night...2 bites, and no mas chicken. Only thing going for them is the soup, and that is not even on the menu! Hasta La Vista Baby! |

YO V-Bob: You are preaching to the choir except for the fact you live ther full time. Here I go again ranting about the food and service in SJ. The Morazan has been off my EAT list for over a year.....along with the Colonial, DR and several others in the gulch. Fellows: Have you begin to notice that back when fewer gringos were around restaurants seemingly worked harder to get their business. Seems like when we popularize them it is the kiss of death.....could be just my superstition. Hate to say it but the last two times at our Costa de Sol the food was not as good as before.....and gawd help you if you look in that kitchen.....Ughhhh. The news cafe is not as good and has limited it's choices for lunch specials......probably due to Hartley not there anymore. I did have the opportunity to stay in rm 215 just above the kitchen where they entertained me daily with the clanging and rattling of dishes, pots and pans.....1st show was at 4am. Sadly, but when I am traveling to CR, the one thing I do not look forward to is the chow. And BTW, There is not tender and delicious steak in CR. NADA. |

I always preferred the place when it was just another regular tico bar where I could get breakfast for under 1000 colones, before it even turned into an overpriced gay fern bar. The more places like that convert to target the gringo market (and then forget the gringo standards of service that go with it), the more that SJ loses the "ticoness" that was its appeal to me to begin with. Its like the worst of both worlds - pricey gringo slickness with tico standards of service. |

Last time I ate there the food was awsome and the portions were large and hearty. Carlos told me he had been approached by the Sleep Inn about providing room service and other food, i.e catering. I wonder if the cafe if now playing second to other business? Ohio Bob |

YO PIDD Yea, and "black bean" soup sucks big time in CR. At least here in the Pits of Jax they put lots of nice tender black beans in the pot......along with the onions, garlic, peppers, sauces and a little Opossum fat. Yummmmm |

Dang! Say it ain't so. This sounds like the rip-off chain resturaunts in tourist-tinseland Orlando, FL which are mostly all show no go with high prices, arrogant owners/managers, and low quality. |

I was there last January and wasn't impressed at all. Although the food was good, the portion was very small and overpriced. The service was poor. The tip was included in the bill, but I still gave the waiter some additional. Apparently he didn't think it was enough because I remember him rolling his eyes. During my July-August trip, even though I walked past the place at least 8 times a day, I never stopped in. Prabably the worse thing about the place was the small portion of food. One of my pet peeves is going out to eat somewhere, and leaving there still hungry. Zebra |

That is too bad. I have only been there once, that was last year after the 1st anniv. party. I went with a bunch of CRT guys and the food was good and plentiful. The only thing about the place that I didn't like was when a girl would walk in. You never really knew if it was a girl or not. Kind of creeped me out. |

Guy's, Found out why the portions have gotten smaller. It was done at the request of most of the patron's ( gay's and Trannies ) It seems that they were gaining too much weight and and wanted to keep there girlish figures. Being that the Cafe Morazan was the restaurant they frequented the most the management is honoring there request. Also, they have said that they will now alway's have Coca light in stock. I think JRs ribs is more our style anyway. The Nuck |
