I was walking down Calle 9 from the Del Rey the other day & was surprised to see the old NY Bar location open for business. It is now operating as "New York Streets", calling itself a sports bar. It's been cleaned up & modernized from the old days & still has that little balcony with the million $ view of the bus stop & the pungent aroma of bus fumes. Saw a few ex-pat types drinking in there but none of the weathered "talent" that use to hang there. I stopped in, had a couple of rums & reminisced of 2004 & beyond when I first came to SJO. They've got a full menu & good drink prices so you might stop in have a cold beer & a bowl of chifrijo.

Those were the days sitting in the terrace over looking the street. Now there are comfy seats and a table. The menu looked good and reasonably priced. They did not have wine. But was told they would soon.

Was there in the afternoon, had soup, was very good. Menu prices were reasonable. 1200 colones beer, they said they had happy hour for hard liquor. Nice bartenders. I liked the place. Don't know if girls go in the evening, but it has potential.

Short update, it is open now and is a good place to gather for a beer with friends, reminds me of Chubbs bar a little bit. The sign outside says New York Streets btw. On some nights this place becomes a real good drinking bar and you will see tables holding an impressive empty bottle count.
There is a disco right next door/upstairs that is also open. The waitresses who work in the bar do a lot of walking to cover all the tables, and the staff is not large in number, maybe factor that into the propina.

The thought of "New York Streets" just isn't appealing to me at this time, lol, but the bar here in Costa Rica might be nice...

Miss those amazing wings the old New York Bar had and the cheap $5 win/lose football bets we used to have.

Banged a young bartender there eons ago, 18, stunning, her aunt was the cook.

I begged for weeks to no avail but then she got fired and was broke and I ran into her when she was interviewing for a job by accident close to where I lived.

She explained she could never go with me when she worked there because her mother and aunt watched over her like hawks working amongst all the old monger pervs, but this time she can attribute it to a longer interview, lol.

Only 18 but she was savvy enough to realize I was crazy for her and she made me pay wayyyy more than I ever thought I would for any girl here, but she ended up being well worth it, fantasy realized...

I ran into her at another place she got a job at downtown months later, asked for a rematch, no dice.

Oh well, like the donut commercials decades ago..."They make more"...

Definitely a tico bar now as they leave the bottles on the table so there is no dispute over the tab.

I'm not so sure about that. At least concerning the Gulch.
Unfortunately, CR is facing some very hard, possibly lean times and we all know what that leads to.... more girls working, more competition > lower prices.
The Rey was definitely making $$$$ at the bar. Someone (huge hint to M. Bernard) will be filling that void. Although, I do see a poster's point that they would prefer that it not happen at their hotel. A stand-alone bar vs bar/hotel would be much more feasible economically anyways. Now, how to get the girls there... 8) Free drinks for you putos! jajajaja Well, maybe bocas.
Spread the word: It will definitely be a buyer's mkt here.

I am. If you were here in those days, there was nothing like it. It was Valhalla revisited.

Nonetheless, SL, Tamarindo, and Hotel Castillo and maybe Habana have attendees waiting to attend to you.

Monica's and Oasis and several other MP's still hard at work.

High tech venues are **SPAM LINK******, Tinder.com and Wilas.com

For those gentlemen visiting CR, perhaps from California, who are politically correct, transgenders are still available after hours on Calle 5 and Avenida 7.

Something for everyone still exists, come on down, it's just not that blatantly in your face anymore, but you will still get poontang aplenty, you just have to work a little harder...
