I was in SJ last week. Walked by the Balmoral on avenida central and saw a bar above the Quiznos. It was a gringo sports bar. The place had many tv monitors with sports. At the front of the place, facing avenida centra, was an open area(patio). It had a great view of the street. Nice for people watching.... senoritas, chicas going and coming back from the DR or going in to see Dr. Lee for their feminine needs. I ordered the burger and fries. Nice juicy burger and crispy fries. It was up to north american standard. Will make another visit on my return trip to SJ.

cheers,
Attila

Thanks for the info, I had heard about this place on my last trip but didn't have time to go there. How are the beer prices, compared to say, Chubbs or Papi's?

I didn't order beer but I saw a gringo pay for a large bottle of Imperial with a 2000 colones note.
Couple of gringos told me, during ladies night/happy hour, there are a few chicas hanging around. :D :D :D

cheers,
Attila

Your welcome but please let's not be so formal. You don't have to call me Mr. Hun. Attila is fine or you could just say"would you like a beer". :D :D :D

cheers,
Attila

I would gladly shout you a beer there if I knew what you looked like. Presume you would be dressed in a bearskin with horned hat and carrying a broadsword. :D

I only wear that outfit on thursday, friday, and saturday nights at the DR. The rest of the time I'm casual.

Noticed this bar on my last night, was eating at El Patio and noticed their sign for ladies night, believe it was Monday, Wednesday, Friday nights. Good beer prices advertised but did not stop in.

The beer prices are 1800 for the 750ml bottle and 1200 for a regular bottle. The food is good I had the spaghetti and meatballs last night and it was very good. Hard to get good meatballs in costa rica although the country is filled with gringo meatballs.

I like the seats facing the street but the owners are usually hogging the best seats go figure.

Happy hour every night 5 to 7pm

Perhaps they were the 5th+ gringos in a year to get scammed by a gringo scammer. They might have even purchased a bogus operating license and were closed down. Who knows?
