Could you direct or refer me to someone in finding the following information: 1. All necessary documents for running a restaurant (health codes, occupancy codes, anything that needs to be on display inside) 2. Employee docs ( hire and fire) 3. Taxes (what, when, where to file). Thank you in advance. |

Check with Greg at Chubbs. His place is mainly a bar, but it seems to be thriving. But I agree with the other posters, it's is a good way to turn a million dollars into $10. Of course if the world were made up of pessimists like me, nothing would ever get done. Good luck! |

Another dreamer  Whether it be a charter boat, a rest, a bar, these guys are right as an American if you don't speak super 100% fluent Spanish you are going to lose all your money. It may take a year it may take two but its a loser.I know lots of guys who shipped down a boat, or a van or this or that. Enjoy the country make your money in the US its far easier. I too dream of starting of a business overseas, but its just a dream, and perhaps "research visits" are a good excuse to get away if you need one. Look at how many closed down bars and rest. there are down there already .... the rents to a gringo will be high, the locations will be poor. Setting up a business down in C/R you need a wealth of contacts that will be doing favors like fixing the roof, the ref the ice maker, the A/C, the Power. Its not like back home where you call a service guy and they show up at more or less when they promised Mi favorita Chica just opened a little business it was amazing the way she had basically everyone in town with a trade show up over the course of a week to lend their skill. So one guy taped the wire to the brick, the next guy throws the brick throw the window, ole! you have phone service. I jest a bit, but its not too far from the truth. |

Where is Chubbs located? Must have opened recently.... If someone has dreams of opening a restaurant then just look at the one located at the hotel castillo. My last trip there was an Asian dude working on opening it. His 1st lesson was the gov't red tape and extreme slow processing of paper work....he gave up in the end...lesson learned

You may have walked right past it in your breathless giddy anticipation to get to the HDR  , If you walk out of the HDR, turn right and walk 30 paces and turn into Chubbs where there are cute bartenders that won't rip you off like the HDR beerwenches. Perhaps I am generalizing, but often the Del Rey bartenders, although great to look at, spend a lot of time primping in the mirror and playing grab-ass with each other whilst forgetting to return your change.
