Quite a problem off the Gulf coast of FL as well. Dead fish wash up onshore and create a horrible stench. Happens a lot when they release water from Lake O. |

Anybody know if this warning has been lifted? It went out early Nov but I haven't read anything about the red tide since. Headed down soon and when in CR I live off seafood soup and fresh fish. I suppose the good news is I haven't read any bad news about people getting sick . Any info? |

That's CR. The govt posts a notice to not eat the stuff and then never follow up with an "all clear". I figured it was still on the menu, but a fishing member posted yesterday the red tide was inshore Jaco last week. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=42441&p=484066#p484066. |

Here's an update from 24 Dec 12 edition of La Prensa Libre summarizing CR Govt's Ministry of Agriculture (MAG) latest Red Tide seafood alerts. http://www.prensalibre.cr/lpl/nacional/ ... nguas.html Apparently fish and shrimp were never at risk from the red tide which were listed in the 1st govt alert in November, above. But still banned are Pacific clams, oysters, and scallops. Ask in advance before you order the sea food soup? Nice photo of a diseased mollusk included. |

I never had a problem with fish, shrimp, or langosta and I live in a small drinking village with a fishing problem on the Pacific coast of Guanacaste. The first fish usually affected by the red tide is the puffer fish... they are many floating and washing ashore dead but the birds make quick work of them. Not much dead fish smell but the red tide it's self does smell. Can give you ear infections and if you have sensitive skin could itch a little bit. Water temps are a bit funny right now and sea snakes are breading all over the place and on the surface. Was fishing on both Xmas and NY Days and each time noticed litterally hundreds of sea snakes on the surface, something I may have never seen here before! |
