i did a search to see if this place had been talked about and saw it mentioned but thought i would give them a plug since the food was authentic and the best mexican food i have eaten in san jose. about six minute cab ride from sportsmens. huaraches 375 este de la Maternidad San Jose, plaza Viquez really clean, lots of menu options and a nice ambiance. they spent a lot of money in the place but its not reflected in the prices on the menu. had tacos pastor, enchiladas pollo, a cheese-mushroom bake dish, guacamole, chips salsa and a couple of horchatas for $25. the chips had four types of salsa and they really know there spices. rivaled the best salsas in LA. one drawback would be that they dont serve alcohol at all. and its seems they never will according to the people working there. |

OK they don't serve it but do they allow bringing in your own? More on this from a CR restaurant site, including Ph#: http://www.restaurantes-cr.com/huaraches.html |

More on this from a CR restaurant site, including Ph#: http://www.restaurantes-cr.com/huaraches.html i didn't ask honestly. i was treated like a friend by the entire staff and my take was they aren't too interested in that aspect of the business strangely enough. my take was they are trying to be more of a family restaurant. |

Tried Huaraches not too good in my opinion but I lived for years in the southwest. Never found even a good taco down here. |

When gringo's say Mexican food, especially in a foreign country, I always wonder if they mean tipico or Tex-Mex aka what we get in fancy Mexican places in the states? Where I live there are 350,000 Mexicans and many of the families are up to 4th generation already. I go to their neighborhood restaurants. I like some of the tipico stuff, but some, no, not for me. So I am curios what kind of Mexicano food is served in the places mentioned--the tipico or the Tex Mex. |

The best Mexican Food I ever had was when I lived in Tucson Arizona in the late 70's. MMM good, especially the Bean Chimichangas down in the barrio of South Tucson near the old rodeo. That and a cold pitcher of Dos Equis and you were set! |
