There are a lot of American fast food in the gulch. Any recommendations on Tico/Central American fast food.

Pollo Campero can be found all over Costa Rica. I remember seeing one somewhere near the gulch but can't remember where. Basic chicken place a lot like KFC but with a Costa Rican style like rice, beans and other sides you won't see at KFC. Used to eat the bargain chicken sandwiches at the one in Escazu Centro.
