Any restaurants with Caribbean food in San Jose? Not expecting much as didn't find anything close to Jamaican food the couple of times when I was in Puerto Viejo.

There is a place in Zapote called la Caribeña. The food is really good. Also, they have a bar/dance club there as well. It is a nice change of pace if you wanna check out the food. The owner's son used to work for me back in the day and he brought me there once. Since then, everyone I talked to says the food there is excellent. Also, if you need something closer to the gulch. There is a place called Whappin in Barrio Escalante. The food there is good, but not as good as la Caribeña. The people that work there are very nice and their Rondon de mariscos is incredible. They are more pricey as well, but a good choice. There are a few other ones around town, but these two I have tried many times. Hope this helps....... Oh, I also know a guy who drives around and sells Paty and rice and beans during the week as well. I ight be able to get him to deliver......lol

Thanks Doc. Will probably check out Whappin first because it is much closer, but anxious to give both a try. Could definitely go for a paty once in a while. Used to live on Jamaican food back in the day when I lived in Miami. Typical lunch was curry goat, peas and rice, boiled green banana and a champagne cola!

WOW!!!! You are making me hungry rightnow...... I am about to try the guy who delivers for lunch today. I think there is a Cuban place in Pavas too...... Saw it once when I was at some chick's house. In case you are in to that too. I am gonna go try it this week.

Haven't eaten Cuban as much but have liked what I've eaten. Especially a good Cuban sandwich or medianoche sandwich.

Whappin is pretty good, though I found it a little pricey for what it is. Having said that they have authentic Caribbean plates and drinks.
