This used to be my favorite restaurant, but I doubt Tony (owner) will be seeing me anytime soon. Tony formerly owned the restaurant Il Ritorno on the Barrio Amon and San Pedro line. He sold it and opened Tres Scolini in Santa Ana.
I recently went there with 4 other family members. The five of us shared 3 appetisers. We had a $40 bottle of wine and a couple of drinks. The worst part was when they served the main courses. On my recommendation 3 people had the Corvina which is $15. The portions were significantly smaller than anything I had ever seen there. Obviously he had just one piece of fish and cut it in three pieces. With tax and tip the dinner was $240. If he gave us something to eat probably no one would have complained. It will be a long time before he sees me there. To be honest,I was embarassed. I call um like I see um.

Tony's a nice guy but after your review I will continue to eat at Ritorno. Thanks for the information.

So Il Ritorno San Pedro is still open, how is it these days compared to the original ownership?

I have been in CR three times this year, and each time I have gone to Il Ritorno. It is now my favorite meal in SJO for the money...and service is usually exceptional as well.

There are now two Tre Scalini restaurants in Panama City...but I´m quite sure different owners than CR. But they are similar in style and quality to Il Ritorno...small cafe style, solid sauces and reasonable prices. The first one is still the best I believe...which is conveniently located next door to "le Palace" strip club:). The newer one is in El Dorado across from the new Red Lion Casino...which also has a new poker room.

The place is hit or miss now that it has moved to Lindora. Agree that Tony is a great guy, but to me its not reason alone to patronize an establishment. Maybe the increased rent has made Tony cut back on things. L'Oliva is always good an consistent for Italian, so is A'Diamalo. Haven't been to Il Rittorino in years but I think I will go this week.

I like Tony too, but I was never a big fan of the waiters trying to up sell and hold change.

Still I think Tres Scolini's has excellent value and is head and shoulders above the rest when its on its game.

However, my biggest issue living in Costa Rica is consistency (the lack of) and feel for you Vegas Bob.

Your not the only guy miffed at Tony.
