The time has come for many to make their way back to the Time Out Tavern (The TOT) in Escazu. For others we hope this is the time for you to discover us. Football Season is Here. College Football kicks off tonight (Thursday 01.09.11). There are two games Friday Night, a full slate of games on Saturday, two games Sunday Night, and one game on Monday Night.

This, of course, is just the appetizer for most of us. A week from tonight the NFL returns with the last two Super Bowl Champs, the Saints and the Packers, squaring off in Green Bay at 6:30PM. We are the best spot in the Central Valley to watch the NFL. Last year every NFL Regular Season Game (256 total games) as well as every Playoff Game was shown at the TOT. I doubt any other bar can make this claim.

The return of the NFL means the return of our Half Price Drink Special and 2 x 1 Burger Promotion. For NFL Regular Season Night Games All Drinks are Half Price from an Hour Before Kickoff until the First Score. Our USDA Burgers are Two for Price of One from an Hour Before Kickoff until the Kitchen Closes. The Burger Special is a Dine-In Promotion Only. Do not miss out on a great deal.

For those of you not familiar with the TOT, we are located in Escazu Centro, 300 Meters South of the Costa Rica Country Club (up the hill). We are family owned and operated. This will be our fifth NFL season. To learn more about us please check us out on Facebook and/or follow us on Twitter for special offers. You can also see what people have to say about us on Trip Advisor where we rank #1 out of the 23 restaurants reviewed in Escazu. Our phone number is 506-2588-2622. We hope to see everybody this Season.

Here is a list of our Current Promotions and Happy Hour Specials -

Pizza & Draft Beer: A Regular (14") Pizza (Up to Two Toppings) & Pitcher of Imperial 9.900 Colones [Add 2.000 Colones for a Pitcher of Segua or Libertas.] Up to a 40% Savings. AVAILABLE ALL THE TIME

Half Price Pizzas: Fridays from 4:00 - 8:00. Dine In Only. Does Not Include Personal Pizzas.

2 Imperial Drafts for 2.500: Every Thursday Night from 6:00 until Closing - Two Pints of Imperial for 2.500 colones.

2 For 1 Burgers: Our USDA Burgers are Two for the Price of One (2 x 1) from an Hour Before Kickoff of each Regular Season NFL Night Game until the Kitchen Closes.

Half Price Drinks: Sunday and Monday Night Football. All Drinks are Half Price from an Hour Before Kickoff Until the First Score of the Game.

Happy Hour Specials: 1. Pints of Imperial Draft are 1.000 Colones from 11:00 - 3:00 for a Savings of 33%.

2. Every Day from 5:00 - 7:00 Liters of Imperial are 2.500 Colones and Liters of Segua and Libertas are 3.500 Colones. At that price it is an even better deal than buying them by the Pitcher.

that sounds like a nice place. but, for guys that want to stay in the gulch, the del rey has the featured games on, have to mess around with the staff to get your game on a tv, sometimes they can't--'subscription required' message, so you know what that means. they don't have it down to a science by any means. no volume on most of the sets, over priced drinks. i don't go to the sl so i don't know how they are set-up.

the best place in the gulch that i know you are sure to have at least one tv for the game you want is chubbs, a block from the del rey. good cheeseburger too. can be crowded, but a nice crowd, and you'll see your game.

i'm sure there are others, let the other guys chime in.

I know it goes without saying but you really can't beat the Sportsmens for college or NFL football. Multiple TVs, multiple hookups, they have just about every game on and if you don't see what you want, they'll look for it for you.

The thing about the Time Out Tavern is not only is it a great place to watch a game or get a burger, they are also involved in things like animal welfare. See this for an earlier-2011 example:

Looks like a painless way to do some social good.

Had to mention her. I sat down last week and was fiddling with my phone or something, not paying attention. Took her a minute to see me and then she apologized like I had been waiting for a long time. She and all the staff were very attentive and I like that being an old bartender..

OK, I stopped by The Sleep Inn Sports Bar and Casino today. John, the guy that runs the sports book there told me they are having free food for sports book players for NFL Season. This casino is totally non smoking. A special on beer, A bucket of five for 5000 colons. John has ran the sports bar operation for years on the second floor of the colonial casino. He moved the easy chairs to the Sleep Inn two years ago. Sports books are few and far between in Costa Rica. He has moved the book into the cashiers cage at the sleep inn casino. Nice operation. They have 7 big screen TVs. I didn't want to post this without John's approval. Across to the Colonial upstairs they have 3 big screens above th bar, all for football.
The food all comes from the kitchen in the Magnolia room at the Colonial

oh-oh--can you describe john/ maybe 64-68 y.o. 160 lbs, gringo, did the sports book at del rey for a while 6-7 years ago or so by the front door before they got raided because then the police did not see booking as legal---problem dudes if this is him. if you bet on sunday night or monday night and you are leaving in the am, he says he'll stay open until the end of the game. he doesn't, bolts early, so if you win, you go home with a winning ticket in the a.m. or give it to a bro. sleep inn or colonial is probably not going to cash his action.

Different John. This john has worked at the Colonial for nearly 20 years and has never worked in the Del Rey.
The Sleep Inn is first class Hotel and Casino. The best in the gultch.
If you smoke don't bother.

good. i agree about sleep inn, emphasis on quiet, especially 3rd floor facing colonial--sleep tight.

Agreed. Sleep Inn is first class. In fact I had a friend cash some winning tickets for me there yesterday (tickets were from Sunday). No problems at all.
