I saw a couple of comments about this restaurant (Fogo Brasil) and was wondering if anyone could offer more information?

1. Price
2. Atmosphere
3. Location
4. Quality of food.

I live in Los Angeles ans we have a place called Fogo de Chao. I love that place and I wanted to know if Fogo Brasil is comparable.

Thanks

4. Quality of food. -VARIES, BUT MOST AGREE THAT IT'S NOT WORTH THE PRICE

Damn shame about Fogo Brasil--at one time they even had a Samba show. The only name most folks know...and now undeserving. For a better churrascaria with rodizio service (they come to your table, carving off meat slices), try: http://www.visitsanjosecr.com/a-churras ... rasileira/

Bit of a ride but better at 1/2 the price? No brainer.

The salad bar is okay, lots of different meat cuts, but daaammmnn they like salt. The salt was the killer for me. I don't think I will ever return. Plus, it is expensive. If you are staying at the SL they have good steaks,
up the road is Cafe Mundo, had some really good meals there. Another place I enjoy is Esquina de Buenos Aires really good steaks. The above are the usual suspects for dinner.

I have been to a Fogo Brasil in Atlanta and it was awesome but I'm a fat guy who loves to eat. Having said that you should never take food recommendations from a skinny person because what do they know about eating. That's like asking a virgin for sex guidance...lol.

A good friend of mine took me to Fogo Brasil in San Jose and i would have to say as far as San Jose steak/beef restaurants it's one of the best.

1. Price -more expensive than the average nice restaurant
2. Atmosphere - Nice...good atmosphere
3. Location -NOT FAR FROM THE GULCH, ¢2000-2500 TAXI RIDE
4. Quality of food. -Some of the cuts of the beef are better than others but still good compared to the rest of Costa Rica.

Thanks to all who took the time to respond. Although the reviews were mixed, one common comment was overpriced. Unless I can get a chica to pay for it I don't think I'll go. I will try some of the other suggestions however. Thanks again everyone!

Sounds pretty good, and it's not too far from me. Have to take the gf there soon!

You have a better chance of seeing Jesus  :P

I've been to one in S FL - while the service was excellent (not always the case here), and the food good - at the end of the day (meal) it cost about as much as Capital Grill or Mortons - plus, apologies to Florida John, no one needs that much food :)

(Plus in the USA the beef is "Choice" vs the "Prime" you find in other steakhouses - still very good, but I'd rather go to Capitol Grill!)

I hate when people say "The place used to be good, but went down hill," but in this case, it is very true. At one point, perhaps 5 or 6 years ago, it was reasonbably priced and good. Now, not so much..

Esquina de Buenos Aires is excellent. The beef is not spiced or salted. (I asked the first time that I went) N.Y. strip $20 I think. I went there 3 times my last trip. Spices or salt are put on steaks to hide the inferior quality of the meat. Like Costa Rican beef.

Maybe some specifics will help

When they first opened it was $18 pp. We used to eat there on occasion. The food was certainly salty but tasty. Now the quality keeps getting worse and the price keeps going up. ($37 the last time I was there (2-3 years ago) The salad bar was very good.
I usually check out new steak restaurants, and the most consistant is still Novillo Alegre in Escazu ( beautiful new location) and San Tana.

Been there twice, would not go again. it was years ago, but still, the meat is tasteless and tough. The 1st time was when it 1st opened and i suspect they were importing the beef, second tome, not so much; local beef; tough as rawhide. skip it and it La Esquina de buenos aires. :D
