Sonny's aka Las Palmas aka East Garden is now open and run by a Brooklynite named UK. I haven't dined there yet, but two mongers ate there a few times and loved the cuisine. It is an Asian American place. But like most restaurants, not enough promotion. Advertises 3.000 colon lunch./dinners. Currently in the process of taking credit cards. It is the bar/restaurant attached to the Castillo. I hope he makes it, nice to have an inexpensive eatery. |

It is the bar/restaurant attached to the Castillo Hotel on Ave 9. I just had lunch and it was really good. Thai chicken and rice for 3,000 colones, huge portion prepared authentically. I also had two good spring rolls which I have never found good ones down here. The owner is UK a Chinese American guy. I highly recommend him and the place. Right now they are open 12-8. |

Bktuna's got it right. Long overdue, but worth the wait...the restaurant (Garden East) at Hotel Castillo is now open. The menu is reasonably priced with nothing over $6.00, and both Pilsen & Imperial are only c700. Hit or miss 'til the word gets out that they're welcomed, you can find chicas at night at the back bar. Just another reason to stay at Hotel Castillo. |

Thanks, guys, for the info on this. I walked by in April but they weren't open yet. Sounds like it has great potential. |

I ate there today, had the Thai Chicken & Rice. Delicious. 700 colon Imperial/Pilsen for July. Nice restaurant to be during the rain. San Jose is a brutal place to open a restaurant. He can use the local support. Really nice for a drinking session, it took all that I had not to leave, well not really. If there was a couple of hottie chicas, then I wouldn't have left. |

I ate there yesterday and truly enjoyed the Thai chicken. Spicy! 700 colone beers!!!!!!!! That even beats Bar Paris. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a cheap cold beer (usually at the back bar) and a good meal for a good price. Kudos to Yu K. I am guessing that these prices will only last until he builds up a steady client base. |

Per Boyd's recommendation, I ate there one night on or about July 3rd. I had the Thai Style Spicy Chicken for 4,000c (3000 for lunch). It was fresh, spicy and served with a vegetable/beef fried rice and washed down with two beers. The guy is really trying to make a go of it so please stop in and help yourself and him out for lunch or dinner. ![]() ![]() |

I stopped in last week after a grueling session @ Little Havana. Wingy & I split an order (6) of the dumplings & I followed that up with the Spicy Thai chicken w/rice. Both were delicious & along with 700c beers, how can you go wrong??? |

This has nothing to do with this topic but in researching MickeyMoose's mention of Bar Paris (more info on that please!), I came across this: http://www.tango.cr/ << for all the Tango lovers--you know who you are |

There are three bars in downtown that I believe are all owned by the same Spanish family that are known for having great drink prices. Bar Paris (Across from the Auto Mercado), 1930 (Next door to Joe B's), and the Embajada (The Embassy - out by the post office??). There are others here who can provide more information. I am not sure if the family owns more bars nor can I factually confirm that all these bars are indeed owned by the same owner. All these bars seem to do a good business and are consistently filled with customers. I think today I will go on a fact finding mission to confirm that their beer is cold and their prices are more than reasonable. Even though the San Jose is not San Telmo, perhaps a Tango location would be a wonderful added addition! |

As we all know, it is important to have goals and to experience that inner satisfaction when our task is complete. Yesterday, I had beers in Paris, 1930, and The Embassy. Mission complete!! I am happy to report the beers were cold and priced at 800 colones in each location. |

Someone different owns the Bar Paris. I was told he was an Italian. I dated the tall dark haired watress who works there a few times. The same guy owns the Embajada, 1930, and Bar Condes which is next to Hotel asia. Always wondered why I hardly ever see any gringos in these places. Also if you sit at the bar they do not charge you the 10% service charge. That goes for the booze and the food. Bar Paris is the best in my opinion, better crowd, looks cleaner, and the food is good although they have raised food prices lately. The watress Prisilla said the owner was strict about the place being clean. And the beer is ice cold at all of these places. |

Guys can you give some specific directions to Bar Paris as I am always looking for new places to go rather than continuing to the same ole, same ole. ![]() ![]() |
