Not finding the food to be as cheap as I thought in Chepe. Lack of cheap sodas. Anyhow, I have started going back to a Colombian restaurant I used to go to years ago. I get a huge pinto con huevos, plantains, bread and coffee for 1700 colones. They have lunch specials, casados and all kinds of Colombian dishes. Good soup there too. Lunch can be had for 2000 colones for the special. If you are walking from the Presidente in the direction of the National Theater, it is maybe a block away on the same side, left. It is a little shopping center called Galleria Central. You have to walk through to the back and downstairs. Might even see some chicas you know sending money at the spot right next to the restaurant. :D

Yo TW,

You live close to the SL right? Because if you are ever out near UCR there are a bunch of good sodas around there and very reasonably priced. As for downtown, I know Marisqueria (or however you spell it) in the central market that is really good and reasonably priced. If you are interested I will get the name. I always forget it when I ask the owner. Might be a 420 problem......heh heh Anyway, if you walk in the northwest corner of the central market it is right there. I am gonna see the owner today so I will ask the name.

Doc, I ate at the Central Market a fair amount when I was staying at the Hotel Johnson. Only ate breakfast but will have to get back over there for lunch. I'm a soup nut. I love the sopa de olla de carne y sopa gallina. JMS, thanks for the directions. Might just check it out today. If not, this week for sure.

Here's a recipe for this seafood soup. Done right, it will indeed raise the dead--often used as a hangover remedy: http://friendseat.com/Sopita-Levanta-Muertos--1-Recipe

In researching, I came across this food site w/ recipes and pix: http://nathanscomida.blogspot.com/

TW,

The name of the seafood place is called Marisqueria Ribera..... I have two ticos I call real friends and the owner of this place is the father of one of them.... I have been there and the food is excellent. Like I said, enter through the northwest corner and you should walk right into it. If you go, let me know what you think. I am gonna have to get over there this week.

I was chillin with some of my colombian buddies yesterday and they were telling me about a Colombo restaurant downtown. I will get the details and let y'all know. I figure if they like to eat there then it has to be pretty good. I think it is near Paseo Colon......
