I see lots of lunch and supper places, but where are some great places for breakfast? And not that Gallo Pinto crap! CR is the only Latin country I won't eat rice and beans. I guess I am spoiled on Cuban and Puerto Rican varieties that have flavor.

I like to eat big breakfasts and would like some suggestions.

Thanx

SL has a decent breakfast....Bar Poas too but you can't order it during breakfast hours because it doesn't open until noon.

If you want a big breakfast but not any CR gallo pinto, then the Del Mar buffet is your best best. $10, lots of items, eat all you want.

Me, I usually go to a Mus Manni and load up on ham'n'cheese croissants, empanadas and fruit pastries, can get quite a lot for under 3000 colones. :D

I always liked the Presedent'/News Cafe for breakfast. Where is everyone going to hang out in the morning these days?

As for good wake up food.. the Del Mar is hard to to beat for all you can eat

The SL breakfast americano does it for me... wish they could toast the english muffens a bit more :D

And never eat at the Colonial with Crackerass

I couldn't find it anywhere. People on the street pointed at Quiznos and said it was closed.

It's closed too! I liked eating lunch there when I wanted to watch the street.

There are three posts on this thread for the best american breakfest as being at the Del Mar. Have you tried it? You should not need a map?

The News Cafe is open for breakfest, but you don't get to mingle with the street monkies anymore.

Musmannis are all over SJ. You should take a walk to find the one you like

Oh, I am going to Del Mar for breakfast.

I wanted to eat lunch at News Cafe, but there were gates closing it off and it was dark. How do get to it if it is all closed?

I just couldn't find that bakery in the Gulch. But, I am not I am going to go all over San Jose looking for one. If I come across one then I will hit it. I was just walking around and didn't see it near Presidente.

Thanks, and I will let you know how Del Mar is.

The News Cafe is permanently closed now, so you can't enter it at all.

There used to be a Musmanni on Ave Central just before the Presidente, but on my last trip in March '10 it was closed and I think it's something else now. The next closest one is on the corner of Ave 3 and Calle 3, one block west from Parque Morazan. In the same intersection is the Auto Mercado.
