Soldiers,

Can someone point me in the right direction, where is the best place in SJ for, clams on the half shell, oysters and shrimps..
And also lobster.?

If you are preparing your own, try the fresh seafood markets at Mercado Central. If dining out, try the Machu Picchu seafood restaurants or Soda Peru.

Soda Peru = really excellent
Machu Pichu = excellent; stupid expensive

Better option (realizing CR is not a foodies paradise) for sea food is Balcon de Mariscos on the road to Curridabat (my sense of direction is bad, but the place is well known and really not too far from downtown SJO)

La Princesa Marina -- it gets a 1 star for decor, but the food is good. It's not cheap like a soda, but less expensive than Machu Pichu I believe. There one is by Sabana Park, 2k-2.5k colone taxi ride from the gulch.

El Banco de los Mariscos in San Rafael de Heredia is a 20 minute ride outside the city (Phone 2269-9090). The restaurant is situated in a quaint little pueblo near a large church. Indoor and outdoor dining is available. They offer very good seafood parilla. A good meal for two will cost around 14 - 15,000 Colones.

For those watching pesos, you can catch the Heredia por Tibas bus which is located between A 7 & 9, near VIPS and for 360 ride it to the UNA (Universidad Nacional Autonomia). If you want to go further, the San Rafael bus picks up right at that parada, or take a taxi up.
