I have been in a rut and not tried any new eateries in a while. Caracas is located across the corner from the INS building on AV7 next to La Criollita. They serve arepas which are Venezulean pocket sandwiches with a variety of fillers like barbecue and chicken sandwich. I have been by 4 times in the last two weeks and thefood is cheap fast and excellent. They also have very good fruit smoothies, shakes and excelSlent brownies. The place is modern and very clean and the owners are a nice young couple from the US. They also have the tipico breakfast and lunch dishes.
Stop by and give them a try, tell the owner Derrick I sent you by. Working on a CRT discount for us.

Brother BKTuna makes an excellent case for the place (good luck/skill with getting us a discount). Here's another laudatory review:

The arepas are excellent, a nice change of pace. Two blocks from the SL, HLH and DR. It is next to La Criollita and across from the INS building.

Glad you mentioned it. I've passed by 100 times. Will definitely check it out.

Their arepas are succulent and delicious. Was talking to Derek the owner today, he
tells me they are on the verge of closing. I hope that doesn't turn out to be the case,
"Caracas" deserves to become an institution in this gastronomic wasteland. Whether
for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, give them a shot...

Its sad when the genuinely great food fails but the lineups at McDonalds and KFC have never been longer. Such is life in CR. Where is SEAHAWK?

Really appreciate the thread Boyd, as well as all the positive comments from everyone about my place. My wife and I moved here from Boston almost 3 years ago and I started the restaurant from scratch about 1.5 yrs back. Business has been a bit slow, but this is true for many restaurants in the area. I hope more fellow Americans who live here, and those visiting of course, will come visit us. The best time is for lunch or in the afternoons. Since I am not paying for an ad here, I think it's unfair for me to elaborate any further. Safe and fun travels everyone.
