Across the street.. Del Mar Restaurant has very good ceviche.

The best ceviche in SJ (IMO) is Princesa Marina, but the closest one is in Sabana.

Personally, I don't like Peruvian-style ceviche, so I didn't like Soda Peru's.

What is different? No cilantro? Different citrus marinade? Never had the Peruvian style.

best ceviche in the area is Macha Pichu or Inca Grill - I haven't any food in the Gulch to anything more than palatable - Check that, there is a decent argentinian restaurant about 6 blocks from the Presidente.

Peace, love, happiness, and fine dining to all!

The Sportsmens has very good ceviche and here at Dunn Inn we have a good regular ceviche and a spicy Peruvian ceviche.

I will be in town on Monday and Tuesday and plan to try the ceviche at both places. Thanks for the recommendations!

What about the ceviche at HDR? I had it twice. IMO it is good.

I have had good cebiche in the mercado centeral, and several places. Cheap and good, but of course, not for the faint of heart. Of course, the same fish you will get in the resterants, but some don't like the ambiance...

The Auto Mercado has pre packaged ceviche in the Multi Plaza location, very good and you can have it when you want.

I agree, if you're not looking for a gourmet meal the best places to eat are always where the locals eat. Best ceviche I have EVER had was at Mercado Centro. So many places to eat in there can't tell you which one I went to. Prices you can't beat and plenty of eye candy on the side.

I am right now nursing a ceviche induced sickness. Between Immodium and Pepto and a Z-Pack and lots of liquids I'll come around, but I figure I'll be out for the day. Got it in the mercado central, tasted great but last evening it hit me and it hit me hard.

Wish me luck, say a prayer for me, and tell the ladies I'll be popping out of my room soon enough.

I'm sorry to hear that bro. Similar thing happened to me from the chicken empanadas at La Esquina de Buenos Aires (mentioned above) in February. As for ceviche...I've always enjoyed it at SL and have never gotten sick from it.

On Pop's recommendation, I had the Ceviche Mixto at Soda Peru and it was awesome!

Peace, Love, and Ceviche for all,

I agree, just had the ceviche there yesterday, with a SL bartender (who I will not name  ) and it was very good. I've had a lot of seafood there too and it is pretty darn good and reasonably priced.
