Tre Fratelli Italian restaurant (Escazu)

This past weekend I had the opportunity to have dinner with Admin 1 & his lovely young lady along with my wife, (Dam I hate that Bitch) at a new Italian restaurant in Escazu called Tre Fratelli's. New to me but based on the crowds for a Sunday night this is no well kept secret. It is sandwiched between the now very popular Inka grill previously reviewed and Il Panini restaurant in a small strip mall. Next door to Inka there is a Sushi place and another Trendy place both of them were quiet, but the Trifecta of the aforementioned were busy as hell.

After viewing all 3 menus the ladies decided that we should give Tre Fratelli a try. Mind you all 3 places are nice with both Indoor outdoor covered seating available so the Sunday night rains did nothing to damper the spirit. We sat overlooking the adjacent patio dining inside and were greeted quickly by staff that set us up with nice linens some bottled water, a wine list and our menus. Some fresh bread white & wheat was provided with the standard Italian dipping sauce of olive oil (non virgin… tough to find any type of virgin in CR even oil) grated cheese fresh black pepper and it’s a nice alternative to the standard butter or mayonnaise dipping sauces famous in Central America. Our drink orders were taken and we reviewed this rather extensive menu.

The menu is enormous with every type of appetizer, salad, grilled selections, low carb selections, meet, chicken and seafood imaginable. Normally with a menu this large the food is not up to par as it is difficult to make every dish well. Our waiters spoke English and claimed everything was good so off we went. I had an incredible minestrone soup with all fresh vegetables that was almost as good as moms. My bitch wife even though there are 9 million items on the menu has to make changes to their gorgonzola cheese salad with walnuts, I don’t want this I don’t want this can you put this... UGH if she wasn’t such a good mother they would find her in Poas Volcano! Admin had the soup special which was some sort of tomato cream and his lady had the carpacio with drizzled virgin Olive oil.. Hey I want that on the table. All the food was great but I have to say my wife’s salad was truly outstanding.

Some more drinks, and their wine list was extensive and expensive but we were into Margaritas tonight so no wine. For dinner I ordered the Trio pasta which was a gnocchi pesto, a rigatoni “hot” marinara & a fettuccini carbonara. All 3 were excellent though the pasta was slightly over cooked. I was explained to later by the owner that the Pasta is homemade and it’s very difficult to get the pasta El dente when homemade and coming from a household that always cooked homemade pasta that is true. My wife had stuffed ravioli with salmon in a pink sauce, figures the bitch gets the best thing again. Admin had a grilled chicken with some mushrooms with a side of pasta special they cooked up and his lady had twin torpedoes of Lomita with an accompanying side of Fettuccine carbonara. Well way too much food but it was excellent.

Owner came over and gave us all an after dinner drink with our coffee no desert as there was no room but the options did look very appealing. Bill was not cheap, but remember you’re in Escazu which is one step south of Miami as far as pricing goes. Bill for 4 with plenty of Liquor was $120.00 U.S. Taxi from Downtown was 2000 colones, going back it was 3000.00 I was not about to argue but it still pisses me off.

All and all a very nice experience, friendly service, clean, upscale impressive type restaurant with all the accoutrements. Weekends I am told this place is packed along with the other two restaurants next door but there are some fine upscale looking ladies around now only if I could ditch the bitch.

Two thumbs up recommendation for those looking for something different a bit more upscale with about a 10-15 minute drive no traffic out of the gulch. Thanks again for allowing me the space to write here and PURA Vida!
