Post subject:  Beer selection?

I went to San Jose last march and I'm heading out again in a month but I had a quick question I can't remember the answer to. At the markets and maybe the nicer bars, do they have any european or american beers outside of Budweiser and Heineken?

I'll probably end up sticking to Imperial and Bavaria Gold again, but I just can't remember if there were any american or european beers to be found. Have less money to spend on girls this time, so I will likely try to occupy myself with drinking. Especially since I'll be at a hostel for a couple nights.

The Auto Mercados have a decent selection of German beers especially the Hefewiezens. Also a good selection of Mexican beers.

Still have not been able to locate any good Red Ale's although Stan's Irish Pub does serve a great selection.

There is also a new Bar / Restuarante between Downtown SJ and San Pedro called La Mochila. It is on the corner and they advertise Cervezas de todo del mundo y torres nuevas. Looking forward to checking it out con mis amigos and reporting back.

Also, has anyone been to this place yet? Check it out....I want to soon

Good lord, thank you (great sig by the way). I just realized that with my trip from March 15th to 22nd I'll be spending St. Patrick's day in Costa Rica. Cervezas de todo del mundo sounds pretty promising, will have to check it out.

What about actual liquor/beer stores? I don't remember there being any, doing most of my shopping in super markets.

Have never seen a liquor/beer store in CR. Most all markets sell the stuff but some have a very limited selection. There are wine shops scattered around the Central Valley.

Big kudos to Brother EdB for the link. Fascinating stuff to an info packrat like me.
BTW, Jaco has a reasonably good licoreria on the main drag near the bridge. Just sayin...
And hey, don't overlook that Nica brew, Tona. Harry's Bar Poas features it.

Saw a Coors Light beer truck at the airport but haven't seen it in stores. Actually I've gotten attached to Imperial but it makes me do weird things, like two sessions in a day, which I can't afford.

Just bought 24 cans of Coors light for 520 colones each at the Automercado. All of the Automercados (and most bars i go to) carry it now. The price they have now is cheaper than Imperial. (570/580) Not sure how you can ship a product all the way here, pay taxes, pay chorizo and still be able to sell it cheaper than the local beers. Something strange is going on.

I know, it is weird. You can buy a 30 pack of Coors Light in California on sale for $15.99 and in Golden, Colorado where it is brewed it is the same price for an 18 pack. Some of it has to do with taxes, but probably it is price manipulation in order to establish the brand and to meet local competition. Imperial is OK with me.

It's easy, the CEO is a big time monger. They are always talking about mountains. I see right through it, he likes big tetas. Wingman commercials...need I say more.

The Pub/Spaghetti House by the Hospital Catolica in Guadalupe has excellent Belgian beers.
