Had dinner there Tuesday night. Arrived at 10:30 PM. place was empty except for one other table. We were greeted by the owner (?) and his wife (?). Service was exemplary, food very tasty, prices reasonable. I would definitely eat there again.

That place has always amazed me. I've often been tempted to stop there to eat. It is a beautiful place inside.....but always empty. :? Makes you wonder how they can keep the place open. :?

I've been told it's been there since 1909. Possibly living off the accummulated profits of 100 years? :)

Or it could be that the food has been excellent for at least the six years I have been going, and does actaully get a fair amount of people (usually on the later side). I have eaten there mabye 20 times, and have always loved it. It is a good place to take a chica for dinner, as it is very reonsablity, the service is fantastic, and if the date does not go well, you are 100 yards from the action. The best kept "secret" in San Jose.

Always amazed me too but they do get a fair amount of lunch traffic that certainly makes up for slow dinner hours.

This place was my best dining experience on my last visit.

I had scallops and linguine in a white wine sauce, my date had sea bass. We both had wine and shared an appetizer. Everthing was great. I think the bill ended up around $21 with tip and everything!

Just an answer to businesses remaining at a place.

The property taxes are very low here, and if a place doesn't have a high overhead, it doesn't have to generate alot of money to stay in business.

I used to eat at this restaurant in 1995. There was a waiter who looked like Dick Nixon.

Thanks for the info...I'll dine there.

If you are like me and hate to eat alone, you can pick up a "date" at the Del Ray and walk over to Balcon Europa. Its about a two minute walk from there. Nothing like eating a fine restaurant with a beautiful young lady and then taking her back to the casa for dessert!
