Full disclosure OK, this fellow James is a tenant at my friend's apt. complex. He's retired from the U.S. and is putting a lot of effort into pleasing his customers. Location: on the main street directly across from the U.S. Embassy in the shopping center with about 30 stores. It's called Sneaky Pete's. He serves a great breakfast and lunch, closes around 3pm, open Mon-Sat. Burgers are the best in Costa Rica, all beef, juicy, flavorful. I've had the french toast (thick) and his homemade sausage patty, they're great, served with home fries. James is the chef and he has a couple Ticos assisting him. A lot of other items on the menu I haven't tried. Lots of very good food, reasonably priced. |

The pineapple juice works good, but he doesn't have it. ID is right about the OJ, it's freshly squeezed. And the lasagna isn't bad here either. ![]() |

Flyboy, I wish your friend the best. But considering the board you are on you might want to go back and delete the part about his sausage. |

Redman, Nice of you to pipe in. As I disclosed he is not my friend. He is a tenant at an apt. complex which my friend owns where several retired Americans are living. And so I came to know James the chef and owner. I don't have any financial interest in the place. I am interested in having a decent American style breakfast a couple times a week and he provides a good variety. If I referred to an item on the menu that causes you to snicker, then my good man I am sorry it had that effect on you. ![]() ![]() |

It's located right across the street from the front of the American Embassy. As the crow flies from the DR I'd estimate 4 miles west, a bit south. It's on the Pavas bus route (Pavas is a barrio in the western part of San Jose). I drive my own car, so I can't give you an accurate cost for a cab, maybe someone else can do that, perhaps 5000 colones. Take 2 or 3 pals. It's not a gulch location. Sometimes we say here "think outside the gulch". |

FYI A taxi from the gulch to the US embassy runs between 3000-4000, depending on how "supped up" the meter is. I've taken it a few times. |
