Last night I had the best pizza I've ever had in Costa Rica. This has been a long standing debate here on CRT. The bad news is it's in Escazu.(15 to 20 minutes from downtown SJ. The name of the new restaurant is Sole Mio.It's a pizzeria That serves entradas, ensaladas, pizzas, pastas and postres. I had nice large caesar salad and my friend had an arugala salad, and we shared a large pizza (gormet all the way) with mushrooms, chicken and goat cheese. They serve many different types of pizza but if you don't see the combination you want....just tell them what you want and they wiill make it. A small pizza averages around 5000 col. and a large is around 6500 col. They have a full bar.

Telephone numbers are 22881400 or 22881402 They have take out and are planning delivery in the near future. The restauant is 500 mt south of the Multiplaza in a small plaza called Centro Commercial golden Plaza.

Thanks for the heads up VB. I will give it a try. In that same area is my current favorite La Fabbrica.

If you end in the Liberia area there is a long standing pizza restaurant called Pizza Pronto, although they do not often live up to the pronto part of the name.

Pizzas are cooked outdoors in a very old wood burning oven that adds an excellent flavor to the crust. The pricing is similar with small personal sized pizzas averaging about 4500 and large pizzas about 6000. My personal favorite is the Diablo. They also have an excellent Calzone which I cannot finish in one sitting.

Enter Liberia going through the traffic signal (intersection has changed a lot, a McDonald's just opened), turn right at Pizza Hut. When you reach the big tree in the center of the road take a left. It is then six blocks until you take your next left. Park immediately on your right and the restaurant will be on your left.

Hours are a little strange. I do not believe they open until 6:00 pm, even on Saturday and Sunday they are not open until the evening.

Better option is to just email me or call me when you are in town and I will take you there personally.

FYI, there is also a pretty good Argentinian Steakhouse neat the big tree I previously mentioned. Had a dinner to celebrate a co-worker promotion to one of our new hotels in Istanbul, Turkey. 12 people for dinner and a respectable wine selection, dinner was less than $450.

I just emailed you my Costa Rican cell number.

Is NOT PIZZA!

Now if it was a standard prepared pizza and you said it was so, with your long standing relationship to the board I would easily take you at your word and believe you, but even with the Caveat "Gourmet all the way" what you described something that would never be confused with Pizza in Brooklyn.

No pizza in Costa Rica will ever be confused with the real thing made in the Northeastern United States.

Since I am originally from Boston,I have sampled many a pizza from the North End. In Boston it's only good pizza if the oil drips on your clothes and is impossible to remove. Let me change my statement "For Costa Rica this pizza is great".

I'm sure you guys have your preferences, but I imagine a poor guy from the south, who is pizza deprived, would love all. new york, Boston, Chicago, AC......

Depends Thirdworld. Miami is so far south it is north as the crackers like to say. What they are referring to is that in Miami there are so many transplanted Yankees not true "good old boys" that it is really not the south. They are spot on so in Miami you can get great northeastern style pizza.

Would die for a pizza from Steves, Marinos or Mikes all located in Kendall.

VB, if you're talking Boston, how about the white pizza over in East Boston, take the old tunnel to the airport, 200 meters afer you exit, I may be spelling it wrong ...........Santarpio's. A couple other joints around Hanover St. that weren't too shabby either. Now I'm trying to remember where we'd stop afterwards for a canoli and coffee with sambuca on Hanover St.
