SJO Airport Food

Post subject:  SJO Airport Food
In short, the food at the SJO airport is way overpriced and under quality.
The typical sandwich is $9.00 US, including the Burger King Whopper.

Food on most flights is bad quality for the price. Seven dollars for a split of wine on Delta when it used to be free on international flights. And we are not talking Napa valley wines.

The moral to the experience is to eat and drink before you fly.

Are you talking about combos? The whoppers and other sandwiches were $6 eight months ago, talk about inflation.

The only food & drink to get at the airport is coffee and candy from the free samples at the Cafe Britt shops. :lol:

Bring a Subway sandwich to eat on the airplane.

Funny, a personal pizza outside at arrivals is around 1800 colones. Inside I believe it is $7.

I have not tried it but I am told there is a soda near the gas station on the entrance road that is very reasonable.

you can't bring in a gun, grenade, bazooka, ak-47, missile launcher, among others, but a sandwich and bottle of water is OK! :P :lol: :wink:

You must be thinking about US airports where they dont allow it so you have to buy the $8 pre-made sandwich & $4.50 bottle of water at the foodcourt.

I have never had a problem bringing a sandwich through security at SJO. I did notice that on a flight headed to the states they do a search of your hand bags at the gate. On flights not going to the states they do not do a hand bag search at the gate. The only flight I brought a sandwich on board was going to the states and they let it through. My other flights, not going to the states, were on TACA so no need to bring food as they serve a meal or snack on the flight even if it is only an hour flight.

I usually buy a bag of trail mix and a bottled water. I put the trail mix in my carry-on, and I put the bottled water in my back pocket when I go thru the checkpoint just before boarding the plane. Never had a problem yet! :o But if they ever start doing a full body-cavity search at the final checkpoint, I might be in trouble! :lol:

I'm dropping clients off at the airport on Saturday and picking some up on Sunday. I'll try and do a little recon and report back. I will see if I can find that soda. I think I've got an idea where you are talking about.

I posted 2 photos of the soda Irish Drifter mentioned. #'s 10592, and 10593. It is called El Coco, which the locals called the airport years ago.

Yes I have had lunch there. It use to be a great place to have a beer when you were waiting to meet someone who was arriving. You did not have to go to the airport until you saw their plane land. Unfortunately they changed the road pattern so you can no longer get on the pista heading to the airport. You have to head towards San Jose and go almost to Cariari to turn around and head to the airport.

I find the food at SJO much more expensive then at MIA.
