I have been to Tin Jo many times and to be honest it has not lived up to its previous glory. I used to love Tin Jo, but now it has slipped. I also used to like the place next door, but I am looking for good, upscale chinese food to partake in. Any suggestions? |

Hmmm...The US. You're not going to find decent chinese in CR. |

Wrong...I forgot the name, but the Chinese place just a few doors down from the Mas o Menos (the one that is three blocks from the DR, and 4 blocks from Idem) has very good, authentic food. Pretty good Dim Sum; SJO, who is Chinese and raised in San Jose, liked it a good deal as sell.. |

Good Chinese food seems elusive in CR. There is a large Chinese restaurant across the street from the Holiday Inn. It's called JO-JO. I had fried rice....it was reasonably good and reasonably priced, but must admit, I was a little concerned that I was the only customer in this huge restaurant.

the place that Hank was talking about next to Mas por Menos does have pretty good food, but it's not long on atmosphere. Still, close, reasonably priced, and pretty decent food. |

Not to play anybody stupid here but has anybody thought to ask the people at the Chinese Embassy where they'd recommend? Just a thought... Edited to expand--Chinese Embassy 2291-4811 economic/commercial office 2291-7231/7225 To find any country's embassy/consular office anywhere try www.embassiesabroad.com ( for example, the Israeli embassy in the Ivory Coast--what a fun assignment THAT must be!). There's a bunch of other good stuff on that site too. |

The place Hank is referring to after the Mas/Manos is called Wong's. If the old addage of telling if a Chinese restaurant is any good......see how many Chinese people eat there. This place has mostly Chinese people eating. The soups are very good as are most of their dishes. The prive is significantly cheaper than Tin Jo and the quality is probably better. There is also an upscale (EXPENSIVE) Chinese restaurant in Escazu called villa Rey which is VERY GOOD .It is on the main road after the Mas/Manos on the other side. They also deliver to Escazu. |

Thanks VB, it was driving me nuts trying to remember the name of the damn place. The last time you and I and Hank and scubabum ate there you complained about the soup though, saying it wasn't up to the usual standard. lol Still, I've always had pretty good eats there. |
