Any good Thai food to be had anywhere in San Jose?

tin ho has a thai/japanese type cuisine but i wouldn't rave about it.

Tin Ho has everything you could imagine on the menu, problem is when you try to do everything all becomes mediocre.
Also the Sushi is somewhat decent

"Bangkok" resturant in west Sabana looks like it might be worth a taste. I have only seen it going by, not eaten there. 300 oeste de Pops 296-6110.

There's a place in Guachipalin (between Escazu and Santa Ana) called Lemon Grass that's a Thai place. It was good, it's not a special place either in ambiance or food.

Tin Jo - Like eating Thai food at Epcot, bland minimal, I meant really really bland.

Bangkok - Comically awful, kecthup in the Pad Thai, etc.

Lemon Grass - Best of the lot, but still bad. Imagine if school tried to make Thai food, this is what it would taste like.

Funny you say that. I have never heard anyone rave about the food there so I have not been. But last weekend a guy told me the food is just out of this world good. Different strokes I guess.

I have actaully had some good meals there. The Sambal, which is from Malasian, is very good. Some dishes can be a bit dull.

I've eaten at Tin Jo a few times and was somewhat disappointed. It's a nice place, with good service and food presentation, but as others have said, the food lacks some of the elements that we have come to expect in asian food in the US. I suppose that some of this boils down to the fact that this restaurant caters largely to Ticos, who do not necessarily want overly spicy cuisine. Ticos love the place, however.

I've tried the pad thai at Tin Jo, and it was decent. The sushi, or at least the california rolls and spicy tuna rolls, were pretty good, albeit expensive. It's the only place I know of in Downtown CR where sushi is available. When I ordered some to go, the owner of the restaurant, a Chinese gal named Marie, came out to talk with me. She is quite concerned about her customers and was a great host.

There is a sushi place right in the gulch. One block south of the HDR at the corner of Ave. Central and Calle 9 is the Pasaje Plazavenida mall. On the second floor is a restaurant named Comida Japonese Sushi. I do not eat sushi but have been told by those that do that it is very good there.

I've only had one bad meal at Tin Jo, but I usually stick to the basic Chinese items. Never tried the Thai there. I did eat once at Bagkok, whatever it was that was on my plate, deffinately did not taste like Thai.

As for Sushi, there is a really good place in Escazu near the Couryard Marriott. All I have had there are rolls, since that is usually what the girls want, but that place does some really tasty combinations. Also, there is a place in Jaco, but I forget the name. The food is good, though expensive. Plus, there is a well-known former bartender from the DR that works there....so the Jaggerbombs are pretty good too. By the way, if the bartop smells like fish, it may not just be from the sushi . In my opinion, Comida Japonese Sushi in the gulch is just awful. Poor selection, and prepared with way too much rice. Even the rice isn't good.

I ate at TIN JO about 2 weeks ago. Food was good, but in my opinion was overpriced and portions were small.

As for the sushi place in the plaza building on Central Avenida....personally I like it. Another favorite of mine at this place is the Tempura Udom.....sort of a soup with noodles....very tasty.

It might not be authentic but I love Tin Jo. I guess Im used to beach prices, but I consider prices cheap comparatively speaking. God what I would give for Thai in Jaco.

Sushi spot in Jaco is Tsunami. Not sure which bartender you are talking about. I was in last week and dont know of any females that are new.

Tinjo Thai is weak...but you can order it spicier, using the standard 5-star system, where 5 stars is the spiciest. However, 5-star at Tinjo would be 3-star (medium) at most other Thai places where I've eaten in the U.S.

If hierba buena (mint) is available, ask for the Thai beef salad. It's no longer on the menu, but the chef will whip one up for you...and it's quite delicious. BTW, I thought the pad Thai was fine, albeit a bit bland.

Prices at Tinjo are high.

Sort of a side-trip here, but whatever happened to Doh Sushi?

Also, if you're looking for Chinese, there are many Chinese restaurants around SJ. I like Don Wang, right next to Tinjo, but it is also quite pricey by C.R. standards.
