There is a sushi restaurant called JAPONESA COMIDA [sp?] in the modern shopping plaza just 50 feet down the hill and across the street from the New York Bar. You can sit on a balcony overlooking Central Avenida while eating. I like their sushi very much and go there to eat several times each trip. They also have other Japanese food as well.

Benihana in Sabana SUCKS.

I eat at Samuri in Escazu in Itskazu Plaza about 2 to 3 times a week.
This place is my favorite.

I liked the Fuji Sushi restaurant in the Crown Plaza hotel as well. That is the closest place to the Gulch that I like.

I didn't try the one near the Presidente I guess because I'm a little picky about were I want to try raw fish and I live closer to the others.

As far as I know, Fuji is the closest you can get in SJO in terms of decent authentic Japanese sushi, sashimi and other dishes such as curry, tempura...etc I have been there a few times now and so far haven't seen any Japanese looking chef though if that is a must.

Japonesa Bonsai-San Pedro

$5.00 cab ride from DR.

Turn left at first corner after DePefulo's/M and N, then right at the first corner. Lavenderia Latino is on that corner. Bonsai is on the right in the second block, at the bottom of the hill.

Order "The Barko"=25 piece assortment for 7 mil. Delicioso!

They also have a Tepanaki table but the cook went on vacation and never came back. He probably didn't have a legible date stamp.

You can hit DePefulo's after dinner and "kill two birds with one stone."

Luck

I sure hope I did not misuse/abuse any vocabulary!

There goes the neighborhood Amigo...

Probably get the Zona Blue/New Fantasy bunch come over and
start over-tipping the chef & servers to get "better service"...

Go East from San Pedro Mall rotunda.

Approx 1.5km you will see M and N and a big Coke sign on your left.

DePelufo's is next to M and N.

It's a dump. 5 mil cover includes two beers. Good lookin' strippers! Young Ticos drooling too!

As long as they keep the propina under 42% we have nothing to worry about! As Berk informed us, it's not enough to elicit the desired response.

I have always been worried about eating sushi here. Always afraid it is going to be from the Day-Old Sushi discount place.

That has always been a concern for me as well, though I have eaten sushi at the Comida Japonesa place in the plaza on Central Avenida many times with no problem. The worse thing about the place is that the short, stocky tico that manages the restaurant seems to have a "hater" on for gringos. I call him the "Sushi Nazi".......but not to his face.

The place on Avenida Central seems to deliver too. They send it out on the back of a motorbike. We had a lot of it one day at the Castillo. It was pretty good and nobody got sick.
