Ling Lam Tibas Chinese Restaurant
In front of Mas X Menos In Tibas across the street from the Texaco.

At the request of the Admin’s I drove out today Monday to review Ling Lam Chinese restaurant where several CRT members enjoyed lunch on Saturday. I was with 3 friends and was told to be careful as to the size of portions are huge and don’t over order.

Find this truly local place in a middle class Tico area called Tibas. Clean looking, spacious and quite nice. Menu is totally in Spanish and the waiters do not speak English. OK I’m getting better, but than God for my Tico Friend who translated the menu for me.

We all Ordered Soups which I figured were the standard Chinese place type bowl, mistake #1, I received a bowl of soup and so did the others that resembled the titanic. HUGE BOWLS oval shaped and we had real genuine egg drop soup with whole eggs, Fresh genuine Wanton soup and hot & sour that was just unbelievable. Soup bowls were 800 Colones each, and you could have fed two persons per bowl easily.

We ordered a few things and they came out in pieces. On G-Mans recommendation we had the shrimp sautéed in garlic and oil which was just again, hate to keep using the same adjectives incredible in taste. We also ordered a hot & sour chicken that was just ok, but the Lechon Asado, which was baby pork, blew me away. Also my other friend got a mixed plate of grilled meats that was quite good and diverse.

By far as it was told to me to order was the pork friend rice with Lechon cerdo or the baby pork fried rice. I have never seen real soy sauce till I got to this place it was thick like syrup and It was outstanding to add this to the pork fried rice, that to this day I have never ever had anything remotely close to this type of rice for taste and quality.

Look this is a real basic type out of the way place that ran us a whopping $22.00 US for 4 people with a few sodas etc. but if your in the area of Tibas or just want a change of pace out of the gulch take the 5-7 minute cab ride and enjoy a fine lunch of quality Chinese food, inexpensive prices, and some real culture in Costa Rica.

Isn't that highly unusual? I have found that almost all restaurants have at least one or two waiters that speak/understand English.

I agree, but remember out of the gulch now, and in a suburban type lower middle class neighborhood, that does not cater to the Gringo Crowd, In fact I've personally eaten there 1/2 dozen times and dont remember ever seeing a Gringo in the place besides Me.
