I've eaten at Fogo about a dozen times now and I have to be honest, its going downhill. The salad bar, etc is excellent but the meats were in a word, crap! The garlic beef was as tough as old leather and the house special was just so so. The lamb was dry and over cooked and they had no filet this time. We went on a Thursday night (it’s always better to go at the busiest times because the meat is turned over so quickly) and it was just dead in there. The only saving grace were the caipirhinias. After three of those, you really don’t care what the food is like... ![]() |

![]() Thanks for the info AngloTime. I fell in love with caipirhinias when I went to Rio, where it seems every place, large or small, takes pride in making this nectar of the gods. I've yet to find a decent one in Costa Rica. Ciaociao |

Ciaociao, you'll find as good a caipirhinia there as anywhere I've ever been. The guy cuts and pestals the lime right there in front of you. None of this pre-mixed stuff. If you're in a fruity mood, you can also try the not so traditional strawberry or mango. Different but no bad at all becasue all are fresh to order. |

When they first opened I ate there several times. The price was $18 plus beverages. The food was really good. I have found that as the price increased, the quality decreased. They must think they are in Manhattan charging $50 for dinner and a drink. |

One word: inedible. I went there for the first time a few months back and it was just horrific. As others have described, the meat was akin to the sole of a shoe. I prefer my meat rare - medium rare and bloody juicy. Their meat was so well-done, tough and tasteless, which is why they drown it with garlic and salt in a failed attempt to conceal the flavor or lack there of. The sushi at the salad bar was so rank, I had to spit it out. I am not exaggerating. I regularly travel to Brasil on business, so after having dined at Fogo de Chao in Sao Paulo during each visit, nothing else can compare. It is the most delicious meat you will find anywhere in the world, with the possible exception of Peter Lugers in Brooklyn. ME07 |

I have only been there three times. Once, we went there to watch the show, have drinks and hor'douvres. It was okay but not great. On the other hand, the dancers were terriffic. Been there twice for lunch and I agree that their selection is not good at all. Very expensive for CR and I have had better meat at my local soda. Simply, I do not intend to return. |

I concur. I have eaten there on every trip to CR. The prices are close to what I pay for a great aged steak at a first rate steak house here in the states. The salad bar is great, the meat as dry and rubbery as one could make it. I will try some other steak houses next week when I hit SJ. |

thanks for the heads up, i usually hate brazillian places (who the Phuck wants all that meat?) but since this place did not sound prohibitively expensive to just sample a little of this and that and leave the rest. sounds like a waste of time now. |

I found a brazilian resturant in Escazu the other night. It's right below Hooters. I don't remember the name. Although being in Escazu.. it's going to be expensive. |

The name is La Fogueira Rodizio Brasileiro. I have not been to Fogo Brazil in San Jose for a few years but from what I read here their prices are higher and the quality not as good as the restaurant in Escazu. |

Fogo Brasil is OK, a bit pricey but if you eat alot its worth it. Just need to be a bit picky on what cuts of meat you accept or they overload you with the cheap stuff. |

The last time I was there the meat was tougher than a bus stop steak. |
