Hiya guys,

Heading back to SJ next month and was just wondering if there are any new "Must Eat" nicer places or any ethnic restaurants that you can recommend. Any places that have turned to shit in the last 6 months?

A new place opened in Escazu not too long ago, called Bistango. They're open for lunch through dinner. Try the tuna! Muy rico! It's located in the Paco shopping center right across from BAC San Jose branch office (at the traffic light). Been there twice with friends, everyone's meal was excellent.

The Hotel Le Bergerac has a very good restaurant. They have patio dining as well as indoor dining. It is located on Calle 35 in Los Yoses, just south of the main road which runs between downtown and San Pedro.

I had white snapper. It was among the best I have ever eaten and I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the US and Canada.

I'll check it out. If I can get out of the KL. I always get stuck eating their $4 dinner.

Not to forget our newest sponsor www.DosGringosCR.com , one of whom is a chef--if you have lodging with kitchen facilities. Hasn't been any talk about his abilities but for a romantic in-room meal...They are apparently very approachable. Bring'em some OmahaSteaks and make a friend for life.
Or if you're really splurgey, contact Chef Jeff at the White House for something special.

Sorry to report that Bistango is closed, they had a nice write up in the Tico Times, but just didn't do enough biz to stay open. But if you're out that way, in the same commercial center (Paco), a new place opened called Mi Sala, next to the Il Panino cafe. Pricey, but if you want to see where the classy local Ticas go, this is it.
