When I was in SJO in May I ate twice at a place my Tica abogada y amiga took me, called Balcon de Mariscos. It's on Highway 2 (2nd Ave. or Central Ave.) east of San Jose, right where San Pedro joins with Curridabat. The cabbies seem to know it. Right before you get to it, on your left, there's a giant "EPA" store with a big sign on a pole. It's a Home Depot type store, but it's a good landmark because the restaurant is only a block or two past it.

There is an upstairs area that's more of a bar, where people drink beer and eat appetizers. Downstairs is more of a restaurant where they have great seafood of all sorts. I ate a great dinner with three langosas smothered in a sauce that was full of big shrimp.

The ceviche is good too. And the prices were reasonable. Not as cheap as a soda, but much less expensive than Del Mar.

Everyones experiences are different. This restaurant was probably the worst restaurant I have ever eaten in while in CR. The lobster was undercooked and I didn't like the seasoning used in the shrimp. The beer was good.
