Any recent experience with the Garden? What I've read from a while ago is a bunch of stuff about a club and higher prices. Hopefully they aren't noisier and are a reasonable place to stop for a few drinks and an occasional meal. I expect to be a neighbor for a while.

I stayed at the Castillo in May.
The place was "muy tranquillo"!
The back bar at the Gardens was not open (Due to the green season?) & the rest. & front bar were pretty quiet.
That being said, I did lasso a cute little thing from the bar my first night in town so there is still some action to be found.

During my previous stay in Feb the back bar was open every day & hopping at night until 10 or 12 when the Castillo would complain about the noise.

Yeah...I was there last February as well. I remember the problems with the patio bar in the rear staying open later than the time they were supposed to close. It got pretty loud back there. Darren, at the Castillo, had to give them a talking to.

I just got an email from a friend who is now at the Castillo. He said there is some chicas that have been hanging around the Gardens and the Castillo at present time.

Thanks. I hope to be down there in a little over a month. Tranquilo is just fine. Some of my favorite times there were when the restaurant was closed and I went shopping a lot more. We used the bacik bar as a sort of private club with our own booze. Of course the Colombian bar was open in the afternoon then and I met some Castillo regulars at the bar on the way back from Mas X Menos regularly.

They are actually starting to sell memberships? I really want to hear the logic of this business plan.

The pricey memberships get you free food and limo rides to and from the airport. A puta will be n the limo waiting for you, but she will costs extra. Puta's get free food at the gardens which will encourage them to hang around.

This concept may appeal to guys on the internet who do not know any better. But, no self respecting monger who knows the score would ever sign up.

How much is the membership? Seems to me like the best bet for these guys is to hope people treat it like a gym membership, where they sign up for a year but never use it. Depending on how cheap/expensive the membership is, if some guy who lives down there or travels frequently and dines their often, the owners of the Garden's could lose their shirt on the food alone. The problem with that is that food cost/quality can be slashed easily if they think they are losing money. Some multi-thousand dollar membership doesn't look that great if the resturant now only serves pinto gallo.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with this.

Oh and I already have a date with that sexy young bar tender when I arrive also as she already made that date with me weeks ago online..
I think I told about 6 or 7 girls about the castillo & the gardens lounge next door . And if you see a few sexy young ones 18-27 there then probbly those are some of the girls I talk with on msn.
Can't wait as little more then 2 weeks and I will be there to enjoy all the hot ladies in or near the Gardens Lounge and san jose !LOL

The concept is a good one, in my view. I was there when it was conceptualized: The idea is to get some of the action out of the Del Rey and over to....well....The Gardens. Makes good sense to me.

The deal is that the ladies will pay a membership fee (nominal) and for that annual fee they will have access to three hot meals a day, seven days a week in addition to a more laid back atmosphere. The initial rationale behind the purchase and obtainment of the gaming machines was not for Hotel Castillo patrons....but for the ladies to have access to so as to have something to do as they pass the time "between jobs". It wasn't so much for "us" to be gaming. I don't know where they're at with that stuff as I haven't been there since the first of the year.

The guy membership to the club is more aimed at those that reside in San Jose; Costa Rica; or are simply very frequent visitors. It makes some degree of sense if you're there a lot of the time. The Castillo is a good place and The Garden's is as well. It could only get better with more ladies there for us to pick from and perhaps even drive down the price of, at least, boca's. I do so enjoy the club sandwhich just before they close or even for lunch. And I miss the coke's which have actual sugar in them and not high fructose corn syrup. That fact alone is strong lure to move to the place! hahahaahahahah......not really.....I'm a bottled water guy.....lemon Perrier, please.

Are you sure about the gardens or the castillo motel??
As unless something has changed since last august I am sure theres no slots there and only entertainmet was a pool table /the computer in the castillo or chase the girls who walked in the door at the gardens !
But I will find out in 2 weeks whats changed and I will post it for everyone to read okay

You don't have to have a membership to eat at The Gardens. And, CRT VIP members get a 10% discount at the Gardens.

Castillo is NOT a "motel", either. It's a rather nice hotel with all the comforts of home.

No membership is required to patronize the Gardens.

It is a sort-of "VIP" program for ladies to attract them to the place & for gents for...free meals & a ride to the airport?

I never really saw the pay-off for most of us. You would have to LIVE in S.J. to be able to frequent the establishment enough to recoup your annual membership fee. Of course the fee is much less for the ladies & of course they live there so I COULD see the program possibly working for them.

Many of the derelict one-armed-bandits have left the premises but I still saw no sign of the remainder coming to life any time soon. I have a hunch that the new Casino decree may have shot-down any chance of a resturaunt having gaming on site.

As I understand it, the place is owned by a group of gringo amigos. The policies & management seem to vary depending upon which of the owners is currently in town or otherwise exerting dominance. This seems to give the place a "bi-polar" nature.
