There's a reason why this is in the restaurant review section.

Overnight, I came back from my last trip and I have been in total misery for the past 24 hours. It's the first time I've gotten sick in 17 trips. It started halfway thru my flight. All of a sudden, I got very nauseous and made a beeline for the bathroom. It was occupied. I guess I knocked on the door and was about to run to the back of the plane to use the bathrooms when the flight attendant came out. It was not pretty, I was firing out of both ends. Image Image The rest of the flight sucked ass but the good thing is that there were only 3 other people in biz so the bathroom was always free.

I don't know if this was the cause, but I'll put it out there in case anybody else got sick. There have been reports in the past about them, but this was first time I got sick after eating there.

My girl and I ate at JR Ribs yesterday afternoon. We've eaten there at least 5-6 times without any problems. I always order the same thing: ribs, coleslaw, and potato skins. I haven't talked with my girl yet to see if she's also feeling bad.

Besides that, I had a Papa John's pizza at the airport which I often have. And a chicken and rice dinner with salad on the flight. The meals on Taca are usually very good, so I don't thing it's that, but who knows. But I think I was the only one who had the chicken.

Man, sorry to here that buddy, I ate the same meal in biz clas from GUA to ORD at the same time you were in the air and no repercussions, I am thinking it is Papa John's, that place always scares me, I usually grab something at Burger King if I am hungry at the airport (how can you screw up a Whopper)...Or maybe that chicken was undercooked. I am like you, have been sick once in 16 trips and I love to eat at the local places.

Funny there were only 4 in Biz class on my flight too...

Always good to see you mi amigo, hope you are feeling better.

I would go with the airline food. Generally, when you get hit hard like that, it is from your most recent meal. I have the same thing happen with at least 8 meals from airlines. I will not eat those again.

There is also a stomach virus that goes around done here. I have had it this week and had it last year at about this time. It is brutal and has hit me for almost five days now.

NEVER NEVER NEVER eat coleslaw at a Rib place that is in a 2nd world country or third or first world whatever you want to call CR today. But bottom line their food standards for cleanliness are still 3rd world avoid Coleslaw at all costs unless you would eat off the floor of said establishment.
Three things at work when dealing with the Slaw:
A)First it tends to get left out and grow microbes especially in warmer climates
B)Second they dont always refresh the slaw each day... cheap mofos in corrupt countries reuse that crap BEWARE.
c) Third there is a mayo component to the Slaw that can grow really nasty stuff that can cause food poisoning for up to 3 days with hospitlization.
STAY AWAY FROM THE SLAW
In addition the stuff is not cooked and may not be washed properly all a recipe for disaster when dealing with a easy going laid back lazy cook

Could be any of the mentioned places but from my experience in the restaurant industry most, not all , food illnesses take about 8 hours or so to kick in so you could probaly eliminate at least the airplane.

My experience, at least in the US, I like the taste of Papa Johns but every single time I have eaten their pizza I have gotten sick, also once in San Jose. I think it is probably an allergy to something they use in their crust, it seems to be a wheat based product. The other thing is I never eat before I fly, I don't get airsick but after a vacation of excessive food and alcohol, the chances of having a gastrocolic reflex with the change in air pressure, long sit, etc, and partaking of usually fast food at the airport, on the way, or the crap on the plane is high. It is like having a temporary bout of irritable bowel syndrome. If there is nothing on board, you can't get sick.

Goetz

I think you might have eaten too much. There is also the mixing of different foods. Chicken, rice, pizza, etc. The pressurization and motion sickness thrown into the mix.

Eat light before any flight!

Hunters,

" never, never, never eat the coldslaw"

Maybe, as someone said the other day, Living here, I have developed the Latin immunity to problems with 'bad' food. But I eat in 'Tico" resturants almost daily and eat the slaw which is on almost any plate on the menu every time. And many of the places I eat are really low end places, like c1500 for a casada including a natural drank. I MAY GET SICK TODAY, BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. In fact the only time I have ever gotten food poision in any latin country was in a 5 star resturant in Cancun Mexico.

There may be something to that. I wasn't hungry on the plane, but I figured that I would eat and go to sleep.

sorry to hear your story Orange.

in CR, I would always travel with a bottle of this stuff called DIACORT.

I would bring a bottle back to the states with me each trip.

maybe taking a slug of this stuff at the first sign of a problem will help.

but man, getting hit on an airline flight is rough dude.

last time I got hit, I lived in the bathroom for 3 days.

get better soon.
