Ok, so I have come to expect certain things when I go to costa rica. we have all experienced the little things that we may call stupid but are a way of life here. one thing that I absolutely cannot and will not put up with is not being able to make an Irish Coffee in an irish pub. this should absolutely be a prerequisite for working there. if you work in a bar, you should know how open a bottle of beer, and if you work in a phucking irish pub, you should be able to make a god damned phucking irish coffee! I heard people talking about this place quite a few times on the board so i figured I should check it out, so my wingman and I head in there at about 9pm and I was going to get something small to eat and have an irish coffee. no I wasn´t expecting to be walking into a pub in the middle of dublin, but I did expect someone there to at least know the ingredients. my wingman got the spaghetti which was a nice sized plate and he said it was all right. I ordered the Ruben sandwich which consisted of a sandwich 3 slices thick and about an inch of kraut and no mustard. and an irish coffee which i had to tell her 3 times and then she just wrote cafe on the little order sheet. about 5 minutes later I see her walk back to the bar, get a pedestal style coffee cup and leave again. about another 5 minutes go buy and she comes up and gets a shot of jameson in a shooter glass. at this point, I´m starting to get a little worried and I think to myself, there is no way in hell she´s working here and doesn´t know how to make an irish coffee. well, I decide to watch what she does, so she takes the shot to the back to this table where I now see a bunn style industrial coffee maker. she sits the shot down next to the coffee cup and I´ll be god damned if she doesn´t pick up this small book and i´m thinking hell no! this bitch is looking it up in a book! so another guys comes from the kitchen and he´s telling her what to do and he leaves, she dumps the shot in the coffee cup, pours a cup of coffee into another coffee cup, and takes them both back to the bar next to me. he tells her to light the jameson on fire which she does very timidly with a match and and then blows it out, adds a packet of sugar, pours the milk in and then the coffee. that was my experience aat the shannon irish pub. would I go back? maybe, but probably not to eat, and definately not for an irish coffee! the highlight of the trip there was the jukebox though. it is one of those electronic ones that had something like 482 albums in it. very nice. 100 colones for track. |

Another odd thing about the Shannon...it's probably the only place in the world that serves fajitas WITHOUT tortillas ![]() Otherwise a decent place to have a quiet inexpensive meal... |

No excuse for any of this, since the owner of Shannon's talks like a leprechaun and looks like a leprechaun. ![]() |

![]() He obviously wasn't there. when the cat's away, the mice will play. I've noticed this at SL, and espically at Zona Blue. I was turned down twice at ZB last sunday because eddie was out of town and the girls didn't feel like working. I told the one girl that, mili, that if she didn't feel like working that she needed to get the Phuck out and not be in the room advertising herself for rent, and she got up and left. in my opinion, there is no excuse for that. |

Zebra oh, I did! I sessioned with Johanna who I had an extremely fun time with on this trip on several occasions. one of my favorites for this trip. if I so much as get a dirty look from a girl, I abort mission! Johanna always smiles when I come in the room, puts her feet up and tells me not to go when I leave. I just wish she would let me post a picture of her. I have some good ones, but she has a baby at home and doesn't want her family to know what she's doing. she's a nica and going home on the 21st for christmas. |

I like Irish music and have never been to CR. In planning for my trip I checked out the web site for this bar (HTTP://ShannonIrishPub.com). Their homepage showcases an Italian flag! Ya got to be suspicious of an Irish bar that doesn't recognize the Irish tricolor! P.S. Anyone know if women frequent this place? |

I pulled up their website. I didn't know they had rooms for rent. ![]() ![]() ![]() The website says to "...Ask about our Irish Coffee." As for the flag...I don't know what to think. A reasonable facsimilie? ![]() ![]() I did notice they spelled "chips," as in fish and chips......CHIPES. Is this the way the Irish pronounce it as well as spell it? ![]() Zebra |

BKTUNA I am never going home Leave it to CR to mess up Mexican food. Kind of under scores the point I have made to several ticas. It is the one country where everybody could use a cooking lesson. |

P.S. Anyone know if women frequent this place? I am sure Jimmy recognizes the difference between an Irish flag and an Italian one ![]() Most of the music I have heard at Shannon's has been american music. He has a huge juke box full of gringo tunes. It is not a place to meet chicas. |
