In a few days (10 and counting >:) ) I am traveling to CR for a quick trip. I have been promising a girl I would take her to dinner. She a regular girl, no working not even semi... give her time I know..LOL.. But I want to take her some where nice. It could be a $20 dinner or $200 dinner. I just like atmospher and great food. She has mentioned some places in escazu though the names skip my mind. I do want to get out of the city though. Any places to recommend? Sadly, I am not trying to get @ss out of this, shes a cool girl. HOT, but cool. Just a relaxed evening hopefully over looking the valley and a good time. Please suggest away! PS, I think I caught the Nica bug and like it! ![]() DTA |

I suggest CAFE MUNDO....just up the hill a couple of blocks from the Hotel Castillo. Do a search....you'll get lots of info. ![]() |

I agree with Cafe Mundo. It is about 2 blocks up the street from Sportsman's. Eat on the patio under the lights. I had fillet for $17.00 two large pieces with trimmings. Others had lobster, etc. Our bill for 6 was around $100.00. I think she would be impressed. Health & happiness to you and she. Steve - Santas Bro |

We have been there for lunch(cafe mundo). I was thinking Ram luna, monisteri (sp) or others I am not familiar with. Jurgens is out... I dont think I can go back... took a bartender there and she only had 9 crown on the rocks in an hour... throwing silverwear isnt the norm there I guess... ![]() Thanks for the info guys, keep it coming! The Grand Hotel Costa is a non-chica Hotel with class that is right down in the Gulch... If you sit inside, the tables are set for formal, skip sitting in the hall way, the little tables suck, I would sit inside, you do not have to dress formal. Then there is the patio area, which is also where I like to sit. (as long as it is not raining) I always sit farther to the back and not right off the walk-way. But if you want to impress her, this is one place to consider With the pianists to entertain you , and when your through with dinner/lunch ...the square is right there with a POP's ice on the corner.... You get the picture.... take it from there... ![]() http://www.grandhotelcostarica.com/menu_restaurant.jsp http://www.grandhotelcostarica.com/ I have to say that their Dos chuletas de cerdo asadas a la parrilla son muy buenas... she should appreciate the restaurant ...especially if she is a non-working-girl ... ![]() the Gran Costa Rice Hotel is definitely not chica friendly, and most tica's know it. Of course this is just IMHO... ![]() Iggy... ![]() |

Ram Luna... no doubt, if you want to get away from the gulch. It's about a $12 cab ride each way, and have him wait the hour for you. Up in the mountains, beautiful view of SJ at night. Very dark, romantic, candle light, a little wine, a nice meal. You may get some after this one. ![]() ![]() Tip: bring a jacket or a sweater, it gets VERY cold up in the mountains in the evening. Another place would be Bakea, but it's not outside the city, it's in Barrio Amon. Took my girl there on Saturday night. Very good food, $70 for 2, incl glass of wine, tax, tip. Not as romantic as I hoped, too bright and table was too long that we couldn't play footsie and my arms aren't long enough to reach her.... ![]() ![]() |

If you don't mind overpaying for dinner,I think the White House in escazu has it all. The view is spectaculor, the food is excellant, and the service is very good. Also they have a small, very classy casino there if you are so inclined. |

I would definitely recommend Bakkea for number one in the way of atmosphere. check this thread:Any places to recommend? Sadly, I am not trying to get @ss out of this, shes a cool girl. HOT, but cool. PS, I think I caught the Nica bug and like it! ![]() DTA https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewto ... ight=bakea I highly recommend the Pizza Appetizers and the macadamia nut desert(you have to order 25 minutes in advance). In my opinion, the best thing I have eaten in costa rica! My 2 favorites are Fogo Brazil which is not the best place to go for a first date, and the Mirador Ram Luna which others have mentioned in this thread. the last time I made reservations was for the wednesday dinner which has a costa rican show and buffet. wednesday only and this is the message they sent me. their email address is ramluna@racsa.co.cr Quote: That day we have the typical show and the buffet with 20 recipes of the Costarican cuisine and an open bar for 3 hours with Costarican beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The cost per person, everything included is $28.
activity starts at 7:00 pm. Thats because we open the buffet at 7 pm so the people can eat with out missing anything for the show. And at 8:15pm the show with the typical dances starts. If you need anything else please let me know. very romantic place, and if you're taking a cab, you can usually have them wait for you while you are there. |

I would also recommend The Mirador Ram Luna. On Wednesday night they have Tierra Tico buffet from 7-9pm. It's dinner and a Tico culture show. You need to make a reservation. You can get the package tour deal for $52 pp. It includes dinner and transportation. The buffet itself is $28 pp plus taxes. The Ram Luna is great any other night also. As Orange stated, have the taxi wait. They are not open on Mondays. The White House is great for the Sunday brunch. It's $20 pp. |

Have yet to figure out why guys trek all the way to Asseri to go to Ram Luna which, in my opinion, has average food and basically caters to tourists. There are 3 restaurants in Escazu/Santa Ana which are closer, have a view, better food and while pricey you have a cheaper cab ride and do not have to pay the guy to wait for you. Consider Capital Grille @ The White House, La Luz @ Hotel Alta or La Monastere. |

I live about 200 meters from La Luz, and it's definitely good. It's asian fusion. The white House is amazing, with the best view you'll find, and great food. Their "Wedge" salad is really good, and they have daily specials. The chef is open to all sorts of requests too if they can do it. I've never been to the monestery, but i hear the food is so-so, but a good atmosphere. |
