Hi All Just returned from cr and stayed at the courtyard marriott . Nice hotel, fairly reasonable and chica friendly. There is a strip mall across the street with several restaurants, all pretty good and reasonable, not necessarily chesap. One in particular was fitzgeralds coffee. Great breakfast, best pancakes I ever had, good prices. Check it out for a treat outside the gulch. |

Agree with WordWiz. There are several good restaurants in Itzaku (sp?) Plaza, just across the parking lot from the Courtyard Marriott. I particularly enjoyed the Cuban place, but there is a good seafood restaurant as well as an Outback steakhouse. Taxi fare from the Gulch is about $10 these days. The one thing I would add is, pricing is close to US prices. Makes sense, given Escazu is basically Gringoland. Osogrande You can't buy happiness, but you can rent it. |

Whatever you do, do NOT take the bus downtown after dark. You end up at Coca Cola Terminal, and that place is not a good place for a gringo to be after dark. Escazu is a very nice part of San Jose. Lots of american restaurants, etc.. and it's a bit quieter than most of the hotels downtown. The problem will be finding a girl who wants to go all that way out there. Plus, you'll likely have to give them cabfare back downtown. |

The many escazu buses end up either at Coca Cola or one block from Park La Merced. The various stops and final destination are listed on the buses fron window. I take the bus from Escazu all the time coming to town before dark. It is either 215 or 260 colones (40 to 50 cents) for the equilvalent of a six dollar taxi ride. I then either walk or take a taxi to the SL or Amon Plaza depending on weather and my time constraints. It adds 5 minutes or so but you can see much better and the buses are very laid back. I do stay away from Coca Cola after dark. BKTUNA I am never going home |
