No, I'm not taking a hooker to a romantic bar or restaurant. I would like to know the top spots in San Jose. Yes, I will do a search and know about Ram Luna and the White House. What else is out there? Come on Orange... you know all the best places to wine and dine! ![]() Berk..... |

I had dinner at the Monestere (sp?) which is an old monestary on the side of a mountain in Escazu. The inside of the restaurant was very nice - like an old castle - the staff was attentive, the food was very good, and prices were reasonable. The view back down to the valley is incredible an you can see about all of San Jose. Another higher end place I have eaten was the resturant in the hotel Gran d'oro, which is a little east of Parque Sabana and south of Paseo Colon. This was a shirt and tie place and you might still be a little out of place if you don't wear a jacket too. |

I like 2 places but you already mentioned one. I really like Ram Luna. It is the most romantic place I've been to. Candlelight, dark, good food, nice ambiance... I also really like La Esquina de Buenos Aires. It's close to the gulch, but it's quiet and is romantic. I've never been to a romatic bar. If you find one, let me know. |

Hotel Gran de Oro is very elegant and not badly priced. Restaurant Luz at Hotel Alta (old road Escazu to Santa Ana) is very good with a good view. Not elegant but good food, reasonable price, same view as the White House is Hotel Pico Blanco in Escazu. I know you ruled out the White house but cigar bar there is very nice. |

The Blue Marlin is the most romantic bar I've ever been to. ![]() How about the restaurant on the 17th floor of the Holiday Inn? |

Hey Paco. The Holiday Inn restaurant has one of the best views in the country...but I've visited about once per year since 2001, just hoping they can turn around the food, but every time, I'm dissappointed. It's too bad because the location/view are unbeatable. |

I'll have to see if I can find the thread, it was a bar more or less, and I went to their website. It was very classy and up scale. I would consider it an intimate place to have a drink. When you say candlelight are we talking dark dark or semi dark? Berk..... |

I know you ruled out the White house but cigar bar there is very nice. ID.... is the Gran like a block south of PC and facing east on a side street? I think I have walked by the place in the daytime. Berk.... |

Don't hold me to this but I think the side street is Calle 28. Do not know how long ago since you passed it but it has been completely remodeled and really is very elegant. |

At Ram Luna, they use very little, if any, light. It's mostly candlelight. The reason is to enhance the view of the city at night. It has been a while since I've been but I remember it was pretty dark. |

I think the Gran d'oro is on Calle 30 not Calle 28. It is south (1 block) of Paseo Colon, and it faces the east. There is a long staircase leading up to the front doors and I think there are two wooden columns outside the entrance. My first thought when I went there was "what is such a nice hotel doing in such a shitty neighborhood?" It really is a nice place. |

And no, Puchos(sp) is not going to do the trick. ![]() Berk.... |
